The Board of Public Works will vote tomorrow on submitting an application to Wisconsin DOT for a grant to upgrade the traffic signals at S. Broadway St and Cook St to allow for lead left-turn arrows for northbound and southbound traffic on S. Broadway St. DOT would cover 90% of the $670K cost.

The City has long advocated for changes to this intersection to improve safety. We previously painted dashed lines to clarify for drivers making simultaneous left turns that they need to stay on the outside of each other instead of turning inside each other. However, any changes to the layout of the intersection need to be made by DOT since S. Broadway St is a state connecting highway (STH 32/57). DOT has indicated they will consider larger changes in the future as part of their Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

DOT is also planning to resurface STH 32/57 (S. Broadway St and Greenleaf Rd) next year from Merrill St to Mallard Rd in the Village of Greenleaf.

For the first time, James Street Park has a sign! The park is located along the Fox River Trail next to Nuks Thai Cuisine & Executive Suites. I requested a sign to better clarify that this is public space after a constituent asked if the docks were public or private.

Here is the latest update on the County and CN Railway's plans to fix the Grant St railroad crossing.

The Brown County Highway Department will soon begin work on the Grant Street railroad crossing project. While this is a County project, we wanted to make sure City of De Pere residents are aware of the upcoming work and how it may affect traffic in the area.

Brown County will be closing Grant Street between S. Sixth Street and S. Fifth Street from Oct. 12 through Nov. 6. The road is being closed so CN Railroad can fix the railroad crossing on Grant Street from Oct 12 through Oct. 16. Once the railroad work is complete, the County plans to do pavement repairs in this area as well. This work is weather dependent so the closure could be longer if the weather does not allow the street repairs to take place.

During this closure between S. Fifth Street and S. Sixth Street, vehicle access to S. Sixth Street will remain available, and drivers will still be able to make left turns onto Grant Street from S. Sixth Street.

If you’d like more information or a map of the impacted areas, we encourage you to visit Brown County’s “Road Closure” website at this link (and look for the CTH EE Railroad Tracks Upgrade project): https://loom.ly/zNnDaZc
