Meet Probie — one of Sublimity Fire District’s Comfort K9’s— who has been nominated for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog Award. Probie supports our firefighters, first responders, and community with calm, comfort, and connection. From tough calls to community events, he shows up with a golden heart and makes a difference every single day.

Voting is now open, and we would love your support for Probie. Each person can vote one time per email address, and he needs enough votes to reach the Top 10 to move on to the next round. https://fherehab.com/first-responder-paws-award

Honoring the 343 brave firefighters who lost their lives 25 years ago today, our firefighters held their 9/11 Ruck while carrying the American Flag. The sacrifice of those dedicated men and women that occurred on that fateful day will not be forgotten.

Volunteer Highlight | Casey Klein
-
Interviewer: “What inspired you to join Sublimity Fire District?”
Casey: “I’ve been connected to the fire service for as long as I can remember. My dad began his fire career at Sublimity Fire District as a volunteer in the early 1980s, and I grew up attending drills and burn to learns alongside him. Watching him and his crew work together, support one another, and serve the community made a lasting impression. Those experiences inspired me to follow the same path and become part of the district that shaped so much of my childhood.”
-
Interviewer: “Can you describe your first call, or an early call that had a meaningful impact on you?”
“My first fire call was a residential structure fire in a neighboring district during the early morning hours. At the time, I wasn’t entry qualified, but I was still able to contribute to exterior operations. I assisted with venting windows and helped with overhaul. That call was meaningful because it showed me that even without being interior certified yet, I could still play a valuable role and support the team in a productive way.”
-
Interviewer: “When you look back on your time here, what has been your favorite moment at Sublimity Fire? What made it significant?”
Casey: “It’s difficult to choose a single favorite moment. My time at Sublimity Fire has been filled with meaningful experiences — from training on the drill grounds to spending time at the station with the crew. The combination of camaraderie, learning, and shared purpose makes each of those moments significant in its own way.”
-
Interviewer: “What is one lesson you’ve learned along the way that has stayed with you?”
Casey: “One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of communication. Clear, precise information — both giving it and receiving it — is essential to keeping everyone safe and ensuring operations run smoothly. Effective communication is the foundation of good teamwork and successful incident response.”
-
Interviewer: “What makes Sublimity Fire special to you?”
Casey: “Sublimity Fire is special to me because it allows me to follow in my dad’s footsteps. Being able to do the same work I watched him do as a child creates a meaningful connection to both my family and the community. It feels like carrying forward a legacy that has shaped who I am.”
-
Casey, you have done an outstanding job carrying on your dad’s legacy, and we are truly grateful for the dedication and hard work you provide for Sublimity!

Earlier this week, we partnered with Stayton Fire District and the Oregon Department of Forestry to conduct a controlled burn off of Golf Club Rd in Stayton.

Controlled vegetation burns are an essential tool for reducing wildfire risk and protecting our community. By managing fire under the right conditions, crews clear excess brush, strengthen defensible space, and support healthier landscapes. These planned burns help prevent larger and more dangerous fires that could seriously impact our communities.

Thank you to Stayton Fire District for having us and thank you to Oregon Department of Forestry for the incredible help!
