Thank you to everyone who came and took part in our annual open house on Saturday Oct. 10th. Hundreds came out to visit and check out our equipment, spray the fire in the safety house, watch firefighters climb 103’ up an aerial ladder. The weather was perfect!!! We had a special visit by Smokey Bear. Three of the public safety dispatchers who staff the Sudbury Fire dispatch console at our regional dispatch center came out to visit us also! It was great to match the voice to the face. Visitors got a chance to see the brand new Engine 2 and the chrome bell on the bumper was a big hit with the kids. We appreciate all the support and look forward to seeing all of you at the 2027 SUDFD open house.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of NYC, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA. We hold in our hearts and memories all those who perished and were affected with this. Sudbury Fire Department also continues to mourn the loss of 343 brethren FDNY firefighters who died that day in one of the world’s biggest rescue missions. Since that day 25 years ago, over 600 additional FDNY firefighters have died from the exposure to the toxic dust attributed to the collapses of the WTC. Sudbury Fire took part in the 25th anniversary Memorial at Heritage Park today and it was an honor to represent FDNY on this day of remembrance. We are grateful and were moved by the great gestures of appreciation by the residents of Sudbury. Thank you. Sudbury Fire also would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Sconyers family of Sudbury. Since the attacks on 9-11-01 this family has made and hand delivered hundreds of chocolate chip cookies to the Sudbury Fire Dept. Every year for 25 years they have shown their appreciation with such a wonderful act. And today they did it again. Thank you to the Sconyers for such generosity!!!! Thank you to all of Sudbury for your support of the SUDFD. Remember the fallen and their families and please never forget the 343.

Sudbury Fire Firefighters are jacks of all trades. We never know what will come next for our response. Earlier this week we were called to assist a horse (Liam) who got his foot stuck in a piece of farm equipment and couldn’t quite shake it off. Liam was very tolerant and patient and with the assistance of his owner, SUDFD crews were able to disassemble the equipment and Liam was able to step out of his predicament. Reluctantly Liam agreed to have his picture taken as a token of his appreciation for his rescuers. We thank Liam and his owner for entrusting us to help in their time of need.

You will soon see these three out on the road working the emergency calls with their peers and making a difference every day.

Summer weather is finally here. With that, we want to make sure the people of Sudbury are ready for it. Please don’t over exert yourselves in the heat.

Drink plenty of water, wear a hat, light-colored, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing and for SPF use 30 or higher sunscreen. If you have respiratory problems please stay inside with the AC. Pay attention to heat emergencies symptoms such as exhaustion, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, hot red skin, profuse sweating. Keep an eye out for elderly family and friends and make sure they don’t become victim to the heat. Also keep eyes out for your pets. Hot asphalt may burn their paws.

NEVER leave children or animals in an unattended vehicle; even with windows “cracked” they still can over heat.

Sudbury operates cooling centers at the Fairbank Community Center and the Goodnow Library during normal business hours. If there is a need to extend hours for cooling centers we will dutifully adjust accordingly and will announce any changes. Let’s enjoy the summer safely!!!!!

On the evening of Saturday May 23, 2026 signal 5-5-5-5 was sent announcing the line of duty death of Boston Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr. of Rescue 2. FF Kilduff was a 24 year veteran of the Boston Fire Dept. and had served his country in the United States Marine Corp. FF Kilduff gave his life protecting the people of Boston at a 3rd alarm fire in Dorchester. Besides his brothers and sisters of the Boston Fire Dept. he leaves behind an extended family including his two children. FF Kilduff comes from a legacy family of well-known and respected firefighters. On this Memorial Day please keep his soul, his peers and family in your thoughts. Arrangements are incomplete at time of this posting. Gov. Healey has ordered the US Flags to be flown at half-staff until the sunset of the day of his funeral. Sudbury Fire would like to extend our most profound sympathies to the family of FF Kilduff and all of the Boston Fire Department. RIP BK.

This weekend we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, for our Commonwealth, and for the Town of Sudbury. From the first battle in Concord in 1775 to today, residents and employees of Sudbury have stepped forward to defend our freedom. Honoring those who had fallen began in 1868 as “Decoration Day” to pay respects to those who fell in the Civil War. After World War 1 it became known as Memorial Day. Sudbury Fire would like to thank all those who served and laid down their lives for our freedom. In 2000 Congress passed the moment of Remembrance Act that asks all Americans to pause in a moment of silence for 1 minute at 3pm on Memorial Day to reflect on those who had fallen. In this busy weekend that has unofficially been named the beginning of summer, we ask that you take some time this weekend and remember those who gave themselves for us. Rest in peace to all those who have fought for America’s cause.

May 17-23rd marks the 52 annual National EMS week that recognizes the work that Fire/EMS and emergency room staff conduct every single day. Whether it is a medical emergency or accident they will be there to help. These EMS professionals were on the front lines of the Covid epidemic and are prepared to tackle whatever confronts them. Sudbury Fire is proud to be the provider of Emergency Medical Services for the Town of Sudbury. We would like to recognize all our staff, our mutual aid Fire/EMS partners, our dispatchers who process the 911 call and provide over the phone medical assistance and the ER staff of all the hospitals that provide services for their compassionate and professional care. Thank you to all of you for such great service.
