Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost during the attacks of September 11, 2001, and to honor the countless heroes who answered the call that morning.

On that day, we lost two brothers — two men who answered the call to serve and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Calixto “Charlie” Anaya Jr.
FDNY Engine Company 4 — Manhattan

Lieutenant Andrew A. Fredericks
FDNY Squad Company 18 — Manhattan

Their courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those who went to work and never came home, the first responders who ran toward danger while others fled, and the families who continue to carry their loss.

On Monday, August 10th, at 0503 hours, the Suffern Fire Department was dispatched to an outside fire in the area of Woodland Drive and Hillside Avenue. A caller had reported garbage to be on fire. Officers from the Suffern Police Department and the first Fire Chiefs on scene arrived to a fully involved passenger vehicle fire in the driveway of a home on Woodland Drive, in close proximity to the structure. 19-3 and Officers from the Suffern Police Department quickly evacuated the home. 19-Tanker, 19-EQ, & 19-1500 responded within minutes of dispatch and quickly extinguished the fire down before it could extend to the house or an adjacent vehicle. The fire was deemed as suspicious and thoroughly investigated by the Suffern Police Department and Rockland County Sheriff’s BCI. It was determined that the fire was started in refuse near the vehicle. The Suffern Police Department arrested an individual who was charged with Arson in the third degree and criminal mischief in the second degree. Based on the investigation, it appears that the suspect and victims had no connection to each other and the fire was not specifically targeted towards any particular individual(s). Job well done to the Suffern Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s, and Mayor Curley and the Village of Suffern Board for a quick and successful resolution to this crime.
