Connecticut Farm to School Week! 🌽

Last week, students celebrated Farm to School Week with a fun corn-shucking competition in the cafeteria! Congratulations to Nathan D., our corn-shucking champion!

Even better, all of the freshly shucked corn was served in the cafeteria for students to enjoy.

A big thank you to Bielonko Farms for generously donating the corn and helping us celebrate local agriculture and the connection between our farms, schools, and food!

What began as a blank patch of land has been transformed through planning, planting, watering, weeding, hard work, and teamwork.

Our students have had the opportunity to get their hands dirty, care for the land, and watch their work come to life at the Suffield Homestead Garden.

A year ago, this space was empty. Today, the space is growing and so are our students.

And just like that…we’re back! 🎒✏️📚

Our schools were filled with smiling faces, warm welcomes, and plenty of first day excitement as students arrived this morning. From our teachers and staff to our superintendent, administrators and SRO, our entire team was ready to welcome everyone back.

Here’s to a wonderful school year filled with learning, laughter, connection, and new possibilities!

Our incoming kindergarteners got a sneak peek at what school is all about during Kindergarten Experience today. From meeting new friends to exploring their classrooms and busses. they are already off to a great start.

Extreme Heat Warning: July 1 – July 4

The Town of Suffield is expecting dangerously hot temperatures and high humidity from Wednesday, July 1 through Saturday, July 4, with heat index values potentially reaching into the 100s.

Residents are urged to take this heat seriously. Limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight when possible, and check on older adults, children, neighbors, and pets.

For residents looking for an air-conditioned place to get out of the heat, the following Town buildings will be open during normal operating hours:

Town of Suffield Senior Center
Wednesday & Thursday
8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Closed Friday for the holiday

Kent Memorial Library
Wednesday & Thursday
9:30 AM – 8:00 PM
Closed Friday & Saturday for the holiday

Residents who may need accommodations for Friday or Saturday should make preparations now.

For assistance identifying additional local resources, call 211.

The SHS culinary classes had a fantastic visit to Drago’s Kitchen! Chef Drago gave students a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen, shared how his team implements ServSafe standards, and answered questions about his culinary career and experience as an entrepreneur.

Students also had the opportunity to try Chef Drago’s famous pancakes! Thank you to Chef Drago and his team for an unforgettable experience!

Senior Awards and Scholarship Night was a reminder of the hard work, dedication, leadership, and character that define this class. Congratulations to all of the students recognized for their achievements and to the families, educators, and community members who helped support them along the way.

As graduation approaches, we couldn’t be more proud of all they’ve accomplished and excited for what comes next. 💙
