That's a wrap on two great days with the Virginia Hunt State Policy Fellows!

From early childhood and K-12 funding to accountability and preparing students for life after graduation, the conversations were meaningful and the perspectives were valuable.

The biggest takeaway for me is simple: better-informed leaders make better decisions.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent Suffolk, learn from leaders across the Commonwealth, and bring that knowledge back home to better serve our students and community.

Now it's time to put it to work! πŸ’ͺ🏽

Day 1 of the Virginia Hunt State Policy Fellows program is in the books, and it was a great first day!

Today's conversations focused heavily on early childhood education, from the science and economic case behind investing early, to improving access to high-quality early care and hearing directly from professionals doing this work every day.

One message that was really foot stomped today was "90 in 5": approximately 90% of a child's brain develops by age 5. It really puts into perspective just how important those early years are and the impact they can have on a child's future success.

Great conversations, different perspectives, and a lot to take back home and think about.

Looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow and continuing to represent Suffolk! πŸ’ͺ🏽

On the road to Chantilly this morning for the first gathering of the 2026 Virginia Hunt State Policy Fellows!

I'm honored to have been selected as a member of this year's cohort, joining local elected leaders from across the Commonwealth for a bipartisan program focused on education policy, workforce development, and improving outcomes for students.

I believe there is always value in learning, listening, and collaborating with other leaders. I'm looking forward to bringing back new ideas and perspectives that can benefit Suffolk Public Schools.

I'm proud to represent Suffolk and our School Board and looking forward to two great days of learning, conversations, and building relationships.

Let's get to work! πŸ’ͺ🏽

Last Thursday was a great day for East Suffolk!

We officially celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new John F. Kennedy Middle School, and I couldn't be more thankful. Our community is truly blessed to receive such an amazing school.

A sincere thank you to, Superintendent Dr. John Gordon, Mayor Mike Duman, City Council, City Manager Kevin Hughes, and School Board members, past and present, whose vision, leadership, and commitment helped make this day possible.

While the building is new, the proud legacy of the Mighty Wolverines lives on. Here's to honoring the past while building an even brighter future for the next generation. πŸ–€πŸ’›

Since it's graduation season, I wanted to share a few personal photos from a special trip last week.

My oldest daughter, Emery, and I spent a few days in Orlando with my brother, sisters, and family celebrating my niece Shaylin's graduation. πŸŽ“

We are incredibly proud of Shaylin and all she has accomplished. Congratulations, Shaylin! We love you and are excited to see what the future holds. β€οΈπŸŽ‰

Yesterday, I had the privilege of addressing the Suffolk Public Schools Class of 2026.

As a father, I wanted our graduates to know that their future is not determined by their circumstances, but by their choices, character, and perseverance.

I am grateful for the opportunity to spend a few minutes speaking encouragement and hope into the lives of these young men and women as they begin their next chapter.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. We're proud of you. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŽ“
