SPACE HEATERS.

We had this photo shared with us after someone noticed their space heater wasn’t working. Luckily, no fire occurred but it did melt this multi-plug. Heating devices account for over 47,000 building fires and 400 fire deaths annually in the United States. (NFPA)

-Space heaters should be plugged directly into a wall. Never into an extension cord, multi plug, power strip or surge protector. Space heaters draw a higher wattage/amperage, usually over the amount that these devices are rated for. Instead of tripping the breaker; extension cords, and multi plugs will often melt down and catch on fire well before it trips the breaker.

-Leave 3 foot of clearance around space heaters. Keep them clear of furniture, bedding, curtains, rugs and clothing.

-Turn space heaters off when unattended or sleeping.

-Never run the cord under rugs or carpet

-When purchasing a space heater; look for a label indicating that it has been tested for safety. (UL, ETL, or CSA). Be very cautious when purchasing foreign heating devices from Amazon. Additionally, look for devices with overheat and tip over protection.

The week may be over, and their shifts may be complete, but our team is never done striving to be better.

This past week, we witnessed our team members putting in the work on their days off — unpaid, on their own time, and without being directed or organized by administration.

From physical fitness and air consumption drills to live-fire training, these individuals continue to push themselves to sharpen their skills, strengthen their teamwork, and prepare for the challenges they may face in the line of duty.

This is more than a job. It’s a commitment to excellence, to each other, and to the community we serve.

When the calls come in, our community deserves the very best. Our team is committed to being ready — not because they have to, but because they care.

Proud of this team and their dedication to continuous improvement. The work never stops.

Happy Leaders Day!

Today is National Boss’s Day, but at Sullivan Fire, we don’t have bosses—we have leaders!

Today, we want to recognize and thank each and every one of our leaders, both formal and informal, who step up, lead by example, and dedicate their time and efforts to serving our community and our district.

Leadership isn’t about a title; it’s about commitment, teamwork, and a willingness to serve others. We’re grateful for everyone who leads, supports, encourages, and makes Sullivan Fire stronger every day.

Thank you for all you do for our department and the community we proudly serve!
