Math in Motion in the Makerspace Lab!

Mrs. Goodner and Mr. Draughn’s 8th grade math students took their learning beyond the classroom and into the Makerspace Lab for an exciting hands-on STEM challenge!

Students explored reflections, rotations, and rigid transformations by applying these math concepts to create new shapes. Then, they put their Ozobots to work, programming the tiny robots to trace their transformed shapes!

This activity was a great way for students to visualize geometric transformations, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and deepen their understanding of the math concepts they’ve been learning in class.

Our Raiders did an amazing job connecting math, technology, and creativity through hands-on learning!

From the Pages of a Book to the Makerspace Lab!

Mrs. Durant’s 6th grade STEM ELA students have been reading Esperanza Rising and learning about the challenges families faced during the Dust Bowl. Last week, they brought their learning to life with an exciting STEM engineering challenge!

Students visited the Makerspace Lab, where they were tasked with designing and building a house that could withstand a dust storm! Their houses had to include windows and doors, fit inside our dust storm simulator, and most importantly, keep out as much dust as possible!

And what better way to test their designs than with a little flour and a hair dryer? Our homemade dust storm simulator put their creations to the ultimate test!

These students did an AMAZING job! Their creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills were on full display as they designed, built, and tested their structures.

This is what STEM learning is all about—taking what students learn in the classroom and applying it to real-world challenges!
