“If it wasn’t for bonehead English and general math, I wouldn’t have graduated high school!”

Willis Hill was born in Seattle in 1942 and grew up in Sultan, Washington, where sports, fishing, and hunting were a big part of his childhood. He graduated from Sultan High School in 1961 after playing football, basketball, baseball, and track. That year, his football team won every game of the season.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Will joined the Army after graduation. He served for three years as an auto mechanic before returning home, marrying Elizabeth, and raising their three children. He later married Mary, and they shared 27 years together, enjoying the outdoors and camping.

Throughout his career, Will found many ways to serve his community. He worked for the Town of Sultan, served as Fire Chief for Fire District 26 in Gold Bar, and volunteered as a firefighter in Sultan and Poulsbo for 25 years. He later became Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Poulsbo and worked for Water District 82 in Issaquah.

Will has always enjoyed figuring out how things work and finding practical solutions to problems. That curiosity led to an impressive achievement in the water industry. He won the American Water Works Association’s Gimmicks & Gadgets Contest three years in a row, eventually taking first place nationally for his invention of an expandable valve key.

Today, Will enjoys cheering on the Seahawks, visiting the casino, taking road trips, and volunteering at the Sportsman’s Club property near Addy.

He also enjoys spending time at the Carl Gipson Center, where he finds friendship and good company.

“There are a lot of good folks here; it is a special place.”
