A little change of pace for training today.
We spent some time working on rope rescue skills and practicing pickoffs from a highline. Itโ€™s one of those evolutions that brings a lot of different pieces together at once, rigging, rope systems, communication, teamwork, and trusting the people on the other end of the rope.
Training like this gives us a chance to work through the little things in a controlled environment before we ever have to depend on them when it matters.
Good training, good weather, and a solid day with the crew.

Community.

One of the enduring lessons of the cowardly attacks of September 11, 2001, was that the American spirit is stronger than those who seek to break it. In the days that followed, our nation came together; and 25 years later, we are reminded that same spirit of unity and community is still very much alive.

This morning, the Cane Bay High School Renaissance and Key Clubs continued a tradition that dates back to the opening of our Cane Bay station by bringing breakfast to our crews.

Later, we were surprised by the incredible staff at Cane Bay Publix, who stopped by with lunch for our firefighters.

On a day dedicated to remembering sacrifice, courage, service, and unity, these simple acts of kindness mean more than we can adequately put into words.

From all of us, thank you for continuing to stand behind your first responders and for reminding us what community truly means.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation watched in disbelief as the events of September 11, 2001, changed America forever.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken that dayโ€”mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, coworkers, and strangers whose lives would forever become part of our nationโ€™s history.

We remember the first responders who ran toward unimaginable danger while thousands ran to safety. 343 FDNY firefighters, along with law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and countless ordinary citizens, answered the callโ€”many making the ultimate sacrifice.

Twenty-five years have passed. A generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through photographs, stories, and the memories we carry forward.

That makes our promise to NEVER FORGET more important than ever.

A huge thank you to the Four Seasons First Responder Club for their continued support and generosity!

They recently donated new chairs for our conference table, new bar stools for the day room, and new computer desk chairs for our crews. These upgrades are greatly appreciated and will make our station a little more comfortable for the men and women who call it home during their shifts.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to have organizations like the Four Seasons First Responder Club supporting our first responders and our department. Thank you for thinking of us!

A helpful guide to translating your local emergency responses.

A helpful guide to translating your local emergency responses.

๐Ÿšจ There's a lot of speculation when emergency vehicles show up... We see it all the time:

"Why are there six patrol cars?"
"What's happening on my street?"
"Does anyone know what's going on?" ๐Ÿ‘€

Instead of guessing in the neighborhood Facebook group, here's your Berkeley County Emergency Vehicle Decoder.

______________________

๐Ÿš“ : Someone discovered the speed limit wasn't a suggestion. Or we are answering an alarm call.

๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿš“ : One deputy said, "Hey... come look at this."

๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿš‘ : Someone is having a rough day, but help is here.

๐Ÿš‘ : Either something is very much on fire... or someone burned dinner beyond recognition.

๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿ• : Goodest boi is getting a bad man!

๐Ÿšค : Somebody forgot the lake has rules too.

๐Ÿช–๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿš“ : Yes, this will be on the five oโ€™clock news.

Keep in mind, the number of emergency vehicles on scene doesn't always reflect how serious an incident is. Some calls require additional deputies for safety, multiple first responders for medical care, or specialized units with unique equipment and training.

Most importantly, if we're not posting about an incident right away, it's because our deputies and first responders are focused on safely handling the situation. Once we're able to share information, we will.
