More Achievements for South Berkeley Members

Congratulations to Engineer Tim Breckenridge for completing the South Carolina Fire Officers Academy! This is an intense program that tests students in many ways, including personal and professional development, physical fitness, decision making, time management, and leadership skills.

Engineer Breckenridge has been very dedicated to further developing his career, all while wearing lots of hats. By day, Tim is a local restaurant owner. By night, Tim is an active volunteer with our organization. He is a volunteer training coordinator, assistant fire marshal, and an instructor at the Berkeley County Emergency Services Training Center.

Congratulations, Tim! We are proud of you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with our partners at Dorchester County Fire Rescue as they mourn the loss of Battalion Chief Chastity Bigney. Rest in peace Chief Bigney.

It is with heavy hearts that Dorchester County Fire Rescue announces the passing of Ret. Battalion Chief Chastity Bigney after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Chastity was a valued member of our DCFR family, and her loss is deeply felt throughout our department. We are grateful for her service, her leadership, and the difference she made in the lives of those who served alongside her. We will always remember her with respect and affection.

Please keep Chastity’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Chief Bigney.

New Flag for New Hope 🇺🇸

Last week, some concerned community members noticed that the flag at our Jedburg Station was in violation of the US Flag Code, and they brought us a brand new one!

Our on-duty crew assisted them with taking down the old flag, and putting the new one up. Then, they stuck around for a tour, and got an up close look at their local fire station.

We want to say thank you to this local family for providing us a new flag. It is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations are in order for our Fire Chief, Matt Myers!

Recently, Chief Myers completed the South Carolina Chief Fire Officer Program. This is a 40 hour program that is designed to provide essential information for current and future fire chiefs in South Carolina.

This course was split between two separate weeks: one in April and another in August. If you see Chief Myers, be sure to congratulate him. We are proud of you, Chief!

We wanted to extend a special thank you to Knights Welding Services .

We recently had an issue with the bumper on Tanker 211 that could have resulted in it being out of commission for weeks or even months. Knights stepped up and helped us out, allowing us to keep our truck in service. Thank you, Knights!

Today, and Everyday, We Remember

On this day, 25 years ago, American lives were changed forever due to one of our nations greatest tragedies.

2,977 innocent civilians lost their lives. Among those, 441 were emergency services workers. Many more have lost their battles with 9/11 related illnesses, cancer, and depression.

Today, we bow our heads to remember those that have been lost, and the sacrifices made that day.
