Yesterday, our teen participants took part in our Banned Books Readout, sharing excerpts from books that have been challenged or banned and joining moderator Dr. Jocelyn Chadwick in a thoughtful discussion about censorship and the freedom to read.

Our teen readers were:

Coleman Barclay, 8th grade - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
Devon Li, 8th grade - Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
Chanelle Lin, 8th grade - All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
Gabi Mena, 8th grade - Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Antonia Reis, 7th grade - Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
Bettina Reis, 7th grade - James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
Zoia Salamandyk, 11th grade - Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Shiv Singh, 9th grade - The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

We thank each of them for lending their voices to this important conversation, and Dr. Chadwick for guiding the discussion.
