Sun Prairie Schools Futures depend on us ... every child, every day. Sun Prairie is a thriving, increasingly diverse community conveniently located in south-central Wisconsin.

It is just minutes from Madison and close to both Chicago and Milwaukee. The city is known for its historic downtown, quality schools, outstanding parks, and safe neighborhoods. It provides an excellent blend of affordability and high quality of life for its residents. The community supports education, passing twelve building referendums in the past ten years. Most recently, we passed a two-part referendum, which included a capital referendum of $164 million and an operational referendum of $5 million annually. Funding was used to build a second high school, reconfigure Central Heights Middle School, relocate Prairie Phoenix Academy, create a new multi-purpose stadium, fund construction and capital mainteance projects, increase teacher salaries, and fund annual operating expenses associated with our new high school.

The Sun Prairie Optimist Club presented a check to Sun Prairie Community Schools’ Site Coordinator, Emily Veselsky, and School Counselor, Leah Wilson. The $1,000 grant will support the mobile hygiene cart at Creekside Elementary School for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders’ personal needs. Each student will receive a pouch with a toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant initially. They will also be able to request items such as hair brushes, hair ties, chap sticks, lotions, period products, and more!

Thank you Sun Prairie Optimists for supporting our vision!

Horizon Elementary School has a unique way of celebrating birthdays! Thanks to the generous support of Horizon's SCO, which donated the school's book vending machine a few years ago and continues to provide books each year, students get to celebrate their birthday or half-birthday in a special way.

Students receive a special gold coin to use at the vending machine, where they can select a book to take home and keep. This tradition not only makes students feel celebrated but also helps inspire a love of reading.

“Every child deserves a book,” said Jennifer Mathwig, a kindergarten teacher at Horizon who introduced the idea to the SCO.

The cast and crew of Sun Prairie West High School's production of Finding Neverland recently had a special opportunity to connect virtually with Paul Slade Smith, an original Broadway cast member, and his wife, Erin Noel Grennan. Students learned about the show's early development, its journey to Broadway and what it's like to work as a professional performer. Paul and Erin shared their experiences, answered questions and offered scholars a behind-the-scenes look at the world of professional theater.

Family University Launches at Creekside!

After surveying families to find out what parenting topics they would like to receive more information about, Ms. Emily, Creekside’s Community Schools Site Coordinator, has launched Family University!

Family University provides a series of classes on parenting topics. Specialists present in small group settings to parents, while the kids work on a project in a different space. Held every-other month, the first Family University session was held in the district offices. Families shared a meal, kids painted an art project and parents went into breakout sessions about sleep hygiene. Ms. Kia, Creekside Social Worker and Ms. Leah, Creekside Counselor, instructed parents on the importance of sleep hygiene.
