🔥 A MESSAGE FROM OUR FIRE CHIEF | FIRE PREVENTION MONTH

This Fire Prevention Month, we’re reminded that fire safety starts with all of us.

Stop using a device if the battery becomes unusually hot, changes shape or color, smells strange, makes popping sounds, or produces smoke.

When possible, charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outdoors and never block an exit while charging

Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer and charge on a hard, flat surface—not on beds, couches, or pillows.

Together, we can help prevent fires, protect what matters most, and keep our Sunrise community safe. ❤️‍🔥

👨‍🚒FIREFIGHTERS OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER 2026

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Daniel Gamiotea, Captain Christopher Botelho, Captain Alexander Compain, and Rescue Lieutenant Michael Rowland!

These members are deployed with Urban Search and Rescue- Florida Task Force II. Florida Task Force II is comprised of specially trained personnel capable of responding to complex search-and-rescue incidents and large-scale disasters. Team members maintain advanced training and operational readiness that allow them to deploy, often with limited notice, when communities face extraordinary circumstances requiring specialized rescue capabilities.

This team was sent to respond to the earthquakes that impacted Venezuela in June 2026. During their deployment, these members worked alongside other highly trained search-and-rescue professionals in support of response operations in areas affected by the earthquakes. Their deployment required them to leave their families and their regular responsibilities with little notice and operate in a challenging disaster environment while supporting communities affected by a significant natural disaster.
Their participation in this mission reflects professionalism, technical expertise, preparedness, and commitment to public service that are hallmarks of the Sunrise Fire-Rescue Department.

Although their mission took them far beyond the boundaries of the City of Sunrise, these four members deployed as representatives of our Department, our profession, and our community. Their willingness to use their specialized training to serve others exemplifies the highest traditions of the fire service.

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Daniel Gamiotea, Captain Christopher Botelho, Captain Alexander Compain, and Rescue Lieutenant Michael Rowland!

👨‍🚒FIREFIGHTERS OF THE MONTH - AUGUST 2026

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Augustin Fernandez, Firefighter/Paramedics Eddie Twist, Kyle McCaghan, and Edgar Mendez!

On July 13, 2026, Rescue 72 and Engine 72 were dispatched to a patient actively giving birth in a vehicle parked on the side of a roadway. Upon arrival, both crews immediately assessed the situation and quickly recognized that delivery was imminent. The crews provided exceptional patient care while efficiently coordinating their efforts to ensure the safety of both the mother and her yet-to-be-born child.
Rescue 72 rapidly packaged the mother for transport while continuing to monitor her condition. Just prior to arriving at the hospital, the infant was successfully delivered in the back of the rescue unit. Recognizing the complexity of potentially managing two critical patients simultaneously, the crew utilized the firefighter from the Engine to assist, allowing continuous, high-quality care to be provided to both the mother and her newborn baby.

The teamwork, professionalism, and quick decision-making demonstrated by these crews exemplify the dedication and exceptional care that Sunrise Fire Rescue provides to our community every day. Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Fernandez and Firefighter/Paramedics Twist, McCaghan, and Mendez on this well-deserved recognition! 👏🚒

👨‍🚒FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH - JULY 2026

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Daniel Larsen, our Firefighter of the Month for July 2026!

On May 2, 2026, Sunrise Fire Rescue was dispatched to a pediatric drowning at a residence, where it was advised that a five-year-old child was discovered at the bottom of the pool. Prior to the arrival of units, unbeknownst to responding crews, Chief Larsen was at the location in an off-duty capacity, and when made aware of what was happening, Larsen immediately took life-saving actions.

Chief Larsen’s quick response, decisive actions, and commitment to protecting our community exemplify the courage and dedication of Sunrise Fire Rescue. Please join us in congratulating Chief Larsen on this well-deserved recognition! 👏🚒
