The Sunset Police Dept. wishes everyone a fun and safe weekend!

Summer Safety Reminders:

1: Sunblock, it doesn’t take long outside in the Summer sun to get sunburn.
2: Drink lots of water and liquids containing electrolytes. Dehydration can cause cramps and can also lead to other severe medical conditions.
3: Heatstroke, don’t push yourself in this heat. When working outside make plan to take lots of rehydration and cool down breaks. Heatstroke can occur fast and without you feeling symptoms until it’s too late.

Today the Sunset Police Department responded to a child locked in a car for about 10 minutes prior to law enforcement being notified. First the young child is ok not harmed, she was under the carport in a shaded area thankfully so temperature did not get to hot to fast for her!
Next an unnamed officer arrives, myself to assist and struggle some with the vehicle not cooperating with me, I start to worry and I am not focusing on my best effort. Chief Fairchild shows up calm and cool and hey let’s do this together and like a PRO he is in the vehicle.

My point of all this is if a child is locked in a car as a parent or guardian please stay calm and call 911 immediately. Don’t hesitate because the few seconds could mean a life! If you are a passer by and see a child in a vehicle please call 911 immediately, if conditions need addressing immediately you could be instructed by emergency personnel to bust a window don’t hesitate if told to do so a life of a child is not replaceable a glass is!

We at the Sunset Police Department hope you all have a great safe day

We would like to thank the Sunset Fire Department and other fire departments who responded to residential structure fire last week. While thankfully no one was harmed in the fire the residents, a disabled man and his wife who were unable to afford insurance are now homeless. We have contacted the American Red Cross to help but these residents could use as much help as possible. If anyone is wanting to donate please contact the the Chief of Police. The Chief will ensure all donations received are delivered to these residents in their time of need.
