Round #2 of second-grade tours at Town Hall this morning! This time, we welcomed students from Eldorado. Must be something in the air, because we had a particularly rambunctious group today!

A few highlights:

One student pointed out that I've been in elected office in Superior longer than he's been alive. Thanks for making me feel old.

Another student requested that we have a real pirate stationed at Pirate Park at all times. I'll look into that.

I made sure to invite everyone to Monster Mash tomorrow night at the Civic Space. One student was quick to inform me that he has a soccer game and won't be able to attend. Appreciate the heads-up.

One student asked if I'll still come hang out at Town Hall after I'm no longer Mayor. Sorry, not happening.

And finally, I was asked if I've ever been locked up in the Superior jail at Grasso Park. Not yet, but there's still time!

Never a dull moment with second graders. Thanks to the students and teachers from Eldorado for visiting Town Hall and keeping me on my toes. These tours are always one of my favorite parts of being Mayor!

With a record-low commercial vacancy rate and a boom in new businesses—especially small, locally owned businesses—Superior has experienced incredible economic growth in recent years. And 2026 has been no exception. Curious when Superior’s hotel is due to open or when the Food Hall is breaking ground or what happened to Bigsby’s Folly? Join us Wednesday, October 28, from 6–8 p.m. at the Superior Civic Space to learn more during the 2026 State of Superior.

Remember that Town Community Survey many of you filled out several years ago? Residents rated Superior good or excellent in most areas — but the lowest-rated category was our roads. We heard that loud and clear, and the Town has made major investments in road improvements ever since. Over the past several years, we’ve completed work on McCaslin, Coalton, 88th Street, Indiana, 76th Street, Sycamore, the Sagamore neighborhood, Rock Creek Parkway, and street sealing and alley paving projects throughout Rock Creek and Original Town.

Road projects are difficult. People complain when the road surfaces are poor. People complain when we take the time to reconstruct them. But our infrastructure is important and we are continuing the work in 2027. Join us Wednesday, October 28, from 6–8 p.m. at the Superior Civic Space to learn more during the 2026 State of Superior.

Two new small businesses on Main Street:

Welcome Amble Barbers! Meet Mirian and David, the husband-and-wife team behind this new barber shop. It's always exciting to meet local entrepreneurs who are turning their dreams into reality right here in Superior.
https://amblebarbers.com/

Get ready for Kawaii Clawtique! A claw machine arcade promising fun for the whole family. They're still under construction, so I couldn't sneak a peek inside, but I'm definitely curious to see what they've got planned.

A few more businesses are also under construction, but here's the really great news: 100% of the live/work spaces on Main Street are now leased, which is a huge milestone for Downtown.
I'm genuinely inspired by these small business owners. Opening a business takes courage, investment, hard work, and a leap of faith. And these entrepreneurs are choosing to take that leap in Superior. Now it's our turn to show up for them.

Save the Date: Join us Wednesday, October 28, from 6–8 p.m. at the Superior Civic Space for the 2026 State of Superior. During the next two weeks I’ll be sharing some highlights from the presentation. Here is the agenda. Rainy days are perfect for a little civic duty!

Grab a cup of coffee, pull out your ballot, take the time to research the candidates and issues, and make your voice heard!

Then pop it in the mail or drop it off at an official ballot drop box. No better way to spend a rainy day than doing your part for democracy.

Happy voting, Superior!

Well, it only took 10 years in elected office, but I finally got one of my sons to attend a Town Council meeting.

Jackson is a freshman at Monarch High School, and his U.S. Government teacher, Mr. McCoy, requires students to attend a local government meeting. So last night, Jackson found himself in the audience watching his dad run a Town Council meeting.

Was he there voluntarily? Not exactly. Did he look like he was falling asleep halfway through the meeting. Definitely.

But hey, I'll take the win! After 10 years, I finally had one of my kids in the audience. And I have Mr. McCoy to thank for it.

Definitely the best part of my job! And something I’m really going to miss.

Spent the morning with the awesome 2nd graders at Superior Elementary School. We talked about their favorite parks, our pools, where our drinking water comes from, and all sorts of other things happening around Town. The new Community Park Playground was the overwhelming favorite among the kids, which is always great feedback to hear!

And, of course, the kids had some fantastic questions:

Do you like the President? No.

Where do you get your money? Well, not from this job. But then I realized they might be asking where the Town gets its money. That answer is taxes.

Why does the North Pool look like a bomb went off? Because we're tearing up the old pool to build something even better.

Do you have kids? Yep! Two boys at Monarch High.

Can we go to Target now? I was Ok with that.

I always love these visits. Kids are curious, honest, funny, and definitely not afraid to ask what's on their minds. I'm really going to miss this part of being Mayor. Thanks to the students and teachers at Superior Elementary for making my morning.
