Teamwork in action. We got a call from Highway Patrol their portable scales had just had a very fragrant encounter with a trash truck and needed a thorough wash-down before going back in service.
Definitely not your everyday call, but that's what it's all about — different uniforms, same team.
You're welcome, guys. Next time, we're bringing nose plugs.

On October 10th, crews were notified of a motor vehicle rollover on Ocean Highway in the southbound lanes. Rescue 13 responded and arrived on scene to find a single vehicle rolled over with two occupants and two dogs still inside the vehicle.
Crews conducted a scene size-up and initiated extrication operations. Firefighters used a glass master to cut the windshield to gain access to the driver’s side and safely removed the driver from the vehicle. Crews then turned their attention to the passenger, where the seat belt had to be cut in order to safely remove them from the vehicle. Both occupants were removed safely.
Crews also located two dogs inside the vehicle during extrication. Both animals were carefully removed and brought to a safe area.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible.
Do not block exits when charging.
These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.
Double check batteries before you charge.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women of the Durham Fire Department following the tragic loss of one of their own in the line of duty.

We stand with our brothers and sisters in Durham during this incredibly difficult time. Our deepest condolences go out to the firefighter’s family, loved ones, coworkers, and the entire Durham Fire Department family.

The fire service is a brotherhood and sisterhood that extends far beyond our individual departments and communities. When one of us falls, we all feel the loss.

Please keep Durham Fire Department and the fallen firefighter’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the days ahead.
