Last week, I had the privilege of sharing updates with over 100 residents at Asante Heritage. It was wonderful to see familiar faces and meet new friends. Every time I get to sit down with neighbors, It reaffirms my belief that our city is built on the strength of its people. I always leave these community meetings energized and ready to keep working together to make our city better. Thank you for welcoming me inside the gates!

Some of you have asked why City Hall is lit up purple at night.

We’ve lit City Hall purple to show our neighbors and their families who’ve been impacted by domestic violence that they are not alone, that we are a city of neighbors who care, and who stand with them.

If you’re going through something right now, or if you’re worried about someone you love, please don’t carry that alone. There is help available.

Last night we received a great presentation from Westmarc regarding the West Valley Workforce Infrastructure alliance.

It was a great presentation and highlighted the fact that the work before us is not only to bring good, high-paying jobs to the west side. It is to tear down the barriers that stand between our neighbors and those opportunities.

We have extraordinary talent in our community. But too many of our neighbors our facing the rising cost of childcare, the fear that homeownership will always remain out of reach, the impossible math of raising children while spending an hour each way on the road just to reach a quality job.

We want families to put down roots here. We want them to enjoy everything this city offers, its parks, its schools, its neighborhoods built for raising children. And we want them to have work that honors their effort and gives them more time at the dinner table and less time on the highway heading east.

I look forward to having them back to report on the pilot programs designed to address these challenges!

🇺🇸 for September:

We celebrated our first graduating class of our Safe Swim Scholars program. It’s time we do more to make sure our kids are safe around water. This program eliminated barriers that prevented them from doing so and put more kids in swim lessons.

We celebrated the grand opening of our brand-new resource center. This center will provide resources and support for our neighbors who are going through challenges. They may be struggling, but through those doors, in our community, they will realize they no longer have to face those burdens alone.

We got out in the community supporting a fundraiser for one of our schools and gathered to share important updates at my monthly community meeting.

We met with key stakeholders to ensure that the needs and concerns of District One are being met not only when a crisis occurs, but proactively.

We paused to reflect on the events of 9/11, remembering the importance of living a life that shows the people around us matter—because they do.

And finally, throughout it all, I was able to make some much-needed time for the Haney girls, who continue to be the absolute best part of anything I do. I hope you all had a fantastic September!
