Bacon's Castle Preservation Virginia acquired Bacon’s Castle in 1974 and after extensive research and restoration, opened the house to the public in 1983.

Built in 1665, Bacon’s Castle is the oldest, standing brick dwelling in the United States and was originally home to prosperous merchant and planter, Arthur Allen. In 1676, Allen was driven from his home by followers of Nathaniel Bacon, whose uprising later came to be known as Bacon’s Rebellion, for which Bacon’s Castle is now known. The site is open from March to December.

⚔️ TOURNAMENT OF THE CASTLE GIVEAWAY CLOSED ⚔️ We’re gifting one lucky winner 2 tickets to the Tournament of the Castle Renaissance Faire at Bacon’s Castle in Surry, Virginia and a commemorative T-Shirt!

On November 7th and 8th, the oldest brick dwelling in North America will be transformed into a reimagined medieval splendor with musical performances, a merchant’s market, and a full armored combat tournament brought to you by the Tidewater Dogs of War.

The winner will receive:
