Reminder... The FY2028 Budget Development Survey closes on October 30.

The purpose of the FY2028 Budget Development Survey is to inform decisions around funding priorities in School Year 2027-28. Before the Board of Education adopts the 2027-28 school year budget, GCPS will hold numerous public hearings to engage students, families, staff, and community members; the FY2028 Budget Development Survey is the first opportunity for the community to provide input.

Dr. Alexandra Estrella recently joined the North Gwinnett Cluster Meeting at North Gwinnett Middle School for a morning of connection and planning. Dedicated families, school staff, principals, and district leaders exchanged ideas, identified opportunities, and highlighted the many strengths of GCPS. The morning reinforced a shared commitment to providing every scholar with the opportunity to thrive.

Today, Estrella leads Gwinnett County Public Schools, Georgia's largest public school district. The district serves more than 180,000 students whose families speak more than 100 languages and dialects. Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Parent Mentors invite parents of students receiving special education services at all levels (elementary, middle, and high school) to attend an informational session, “Social Security: With You Through Life’s Journey.”

A guest speaker from the Social Security Administration will be joining the session. This presentation will cover an overview of the process for obtaining Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for children under the age of 18 with a disability, as well as the process when a child with a disability reaches the age of 18. This presentation will also review the application process for SSI and provide several online resources and tools.

The virtual session will take place on Wednesday, November 4, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Members of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program recently met with Officer Brian Bergman and the Gwinnett County Schools Police Department to hear about Gwinnett County Public Schools’ G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Program.

Officer Bergman detailed his work with the prevention program and students at Moore Middle School for the delegation that included 24 professionals representing 19 countries and senior police officials, intelligence officers, counterterrorism investigators, tactical instructors, researchers, and policy professionals.
