Happy Labor Day to all of the hard-working members of our community.

Labor Day is also our annual reminder that our kids will be returning to school to learn the skills they need to succeed in whatever career they choose.

Starting tomorrow, we need to do our part to make sure they get there safely. School buses will be back on the roads, stopping to pick up students, and the 20-mile-per-hour speed zones will be in effect. Give yourself that extra bit of time in the morning to make they all have a great first day back.

SWEET HOME POLICE OFFICERS ARREST 2 AFTER RESPONDING TO DISTURBANCE.

Cruz Fisher Olguin Jr, was correctly identified as Nicolas Flores by the Linn County Jail Deputies. The press release has been updated to reflect the correct name of the person arrested and charged. Flores additionally had a parole violation warrant.

On August 31, 2026, at approximately 11:05 p.m., the Sweet Home Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a physical disturbance near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Nandina Street involving a stabbing. Officers responded and found a citizen holding 2 of the involved parties at gunpoint. Officers contacted the second involved person, 20-year-old Logan Gibbs of Sweet Home, who had a stab wound. Sweet Home Fire District medics responded to treat his injuries.

A short time later, SHPD dispatch received a call reporting that an unknown male had come into a nearby apartment, and the resident believed the male had been shot. It was determined that he had not been shot but had been involved in the disturbance and was the subject who had run from the officers. That person provided a fake name but was identified as 19-year-old Nicolas J Flores of Address Unknown.

Another involved individual, a 51-year-old from Sweet Home, was transported to Lebanon Community Hospital for treatment of injuries received during this disturbance. Officers and Detectives conducted interviews with those involved and witnesses.
