8:40pm Friday Update... Here's a look at forecast max wind gusts overnight into early Saturday morning. The strongest axis of wind has shifted a little east, given the storm made a little more of an east turn than expected today. For most of our west Alabama counties tonight, winds could gust between 40mph and 50mph.

Gusts will top 50mph, approaching 70mph in the Selma/Montgomery area and points south.

For the I-20 corridor, and points north, from west Alabama through east Alabama, wind gusts of 40mph to 50mph will be possible between 1am tonight and 9am Saturday. Beyond that, winds will greatly weaken to 10mph to 20mph for the rest of the morning and into the afternoon.

For those near the HWY 80 corridor, your main window is 10pm through 7am. Beyond 7am, winds will quickly weaken.

For your specific county, see the map for details.

At 7:30pm Friday, Hurricane Isaias is back to category 2 status. Winds sustained at 110mph. Landfall will occur within the next hour or two, near or just a tad east of Fort Walton Beach.

10/09/2026

***OUTDATED... CHECK FOR NEW UPDATES***At 1pm Friday, winds remain at 120mph, making Hurricane Isaias a major hurricane. Landfall will occur around 9pm between Pensacola and Destin.

Rain is beginning to spread north, and this will continue into the overnight hours.

BREAKING: Our west Alabama counties have been upgraded to a tropical storm warning. This includes in our area, Marion, Lamar, Walker, Winston, Fayette, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo and Perry.

In this zone, winds could gust 50mph to 55mph overnight into early Saturday morning. Some spots south of Tuscaloosa could experience gusts approach 60mph.

Isaias is now expected to make landfall near Pensacola or Destin as a category 3 hurricane. It has once again made a very slight shift east at the landfall point. While this puts the Alabama Coast in the offshore wind side of the center, very dangerous hurricane conditions are still expected along Alabama's beaches. Gusts to 100mph will be likely tonight for areas like Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, with wind gusts of 110mph+ for Pensacola to Destin.

***OUTDATED... CHECK FOR NEW UPDATES***Here's the latest thinking as of 8:50am Friday. Strong gusty winds will cover all of west and central Alabama as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall and moves inland. This map shows the maximum potential wind gust and the general time-line of these stronger wind gusts.

Hurricane winds will remain closer to the Coast, where there is a hurricane warning in effect. For our area across inland west Alabama, winds will increase from south to the north as the center moves inland.

This is just for our counties... See the details

Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo and Perry: Winds gust 40mph to 50mph late tonight into early Saturday morning. Areas to the south of Demopolis could experience winds over 50mph. In these counties listed, scattered power outages will become likely. The time-line is 10pm through 7am. The peak of the higher wind will be 12am through 6am.

Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Marion and Winston: Winds will gusts 40mph to 50mph, mainly in the window of 1am to 10am Saturday. This could cause some scattered power outages.

There is a chance winds drop below 40mph before 10am based on new data. While the center will be near Tuscaloosa at 1pm Saturday, the stronger wind and heavy rain will be located well north of the center at that time. Winds will continue to decrease into the afternoon, with only 10-20mph winds during the afternoon hours.

Marengo County Schools Families and Staff,

After reviewing the latest weather forecasts and considering the possibility of severe weather affecting our area, Marengo County Schools and district offices will be closed Friday, October 9, 2026.

This decision is being made with the safety of our students, employees, and families as our top priority. Weather conditions can change quickly, and we believe taking this precaution is in the best interest of our school community.

All school-sponsored activities, athletic events, extracurricular activities, and after-school programs scheduled for Friday are canceled. Athletic contests previously scheduled for Friday have been moved to Thursday. Additionally, there will be no school-sponsored extracurricular activities this weekend due to the potential impact of the weather.

District officials will remain in contact with our local EMA and public safety officials and will continue monitoring conditions throughout the weekend. We encourage everyone to stay weather aware and follow guidance provided by local emergency management officials.

Should additional information become necessary, updates will be shared through our official Marengo County Schools communication platforms.

We recognize that closing schools can create challenges for our families and employees, and this decision is never made lightly.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work to protect the safety and well-being of everyone in Marengo County Schools.

Please stay safe and weather aware.

Dr. Kalvin Eaton
Superintendent

Landfall near Orange Beach or Perdido Key at 10pm Friday night. Keep in mind, significant effects will expand well east and west of that landfall point.

A tropical storm watch has been expanded northward to include most of our west Alabama counties. Pickens, Tuscaloosa and points south.

A hurricane warning remains in effect for the eastern Mississippi Gulf Coast, all of the Alabama Gulf Coast, and the Florida Panhandle along the coast to as far east as Panama City.

***OUTDATED... CHECK FOR NEW UPDATES***Here’s how radar could look Friday night into Saturday. Landfall will occur around 10pm-12am Friday night, in the Alabama Gulf Coast.

The worst of the wind and rain for our inland west Alabama counties (Marengo, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Marion, Winston) will occur between 11pm Friday night and 10am Saturday morning.

Rain amounts of 3” to 4”.

In the counties listed above, winds could gust to 40-50mph, especially 1am to 9am, then decreasing to 20-30mph 9am to 1pm, then 10-25mph 1pm to 6pm.

The main risk of tornadoes will occur near and east of I-65 across east Alabama and Georgia.

For the Bama/Georgia game, the worst of the weather will be over. Some patchy light rain and drizzle will be possible. West wind of 10-20mph during the game.
