The following is a statement from the Sweetwater Police Department.

On Friday, September 24, 2026, a Nolan County Jury found former Sweetwater Police Officer Caleb Norman not guilty of Official Oppression in connection to an incident that occurred in March 2024. The Sweetwater Police Department and the City of Sweetwater respect the decision of the jury; however, we remain firmly opposed to the actions taken by Norman. The Sweetwater Police Department is committed to continued collaboration with Sweetwater ISD to ensure proper training for School Resource Officers and, most importantly, the safety of all students.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

We remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the first responders who rushed toward danger, the strangers who helped one another, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

The Sweetwater Police Department joins communities across the nation in honoring the 2,977 people who lost their lives that day and the many who continued to serve in the days, months, and years that followed.

May we continue to remember their lives, honor their service, and carry forward the unity shown in the face of tragedy.
