Public Health Notice: A fox tested positive for rabies in the Rocky Ford community of Screven County. It was collected on 10/05/26 off of Main Street after a bite occurred, and we received the results from the lab today.

The Screven County Health Department would like to notify those in the community to keep a close watch on pets and make sure vaccinations are up to date. Also, not to approach stray, feral, or sick animals. If an individual or pet is bitten by any animal, they should seek medical treatment and contact the Screven County Animal Control Office or Screven County Health Department.

National Disease Intervention Specialist Day

Today, October 2, we recognize National Disease Intervention Specialist Day and the dedicated professionals working behind the scenes to protect the health of our communities.

Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) are public health “disease detectives” who help prevent and control the spread of disease through case investigation, contact tracing, education, connecting people to care, and compassionate support.

We’re proud to celebrate our East Central Health District DIS team and thank them for the important work they do every day to keep our communities healthy and safe.
