Sylvania Firefighters Local 2243 stands in solidarity with the members of Springfield Township Fire Department Local 3544 as they work toward a fair and competitive contract.
Springfield Township isn’t simply a neighboring fire department. They are one of our automatic and mutual aid partners. Their firefighters and paramedics respond alongside our members when additional resources are needed, just as we respond alongside them when their community needs assistance.
That means we have a vested interest in their continued success.
The ability of Springfield Township to recruit and retain experienced firefighters and paramedics affects more than Springfield Township. In today’s fire and EMS service, communities depend on one another. Staffing, experience, training, and retention in one department directly strengthen the emergency response capabilities of the entire region.
When our members call for help, we want experienced, well-trained professionals arriving on those rigs. Springfield deserves the same.
We respect the collective bargaining process and encourage Springfield Township leadership and Local 3544 to work toward an agreement that recognizes the value of these firefighters and paramedics and keeps Springfield competitive with surrounding departments.
To the members of Springfield Local 3544 Sylvania Firefighters Local 2243 stands with you. Your success strengthens all of us.
Strong departments build safer communities!
Springfield Township is a special place to live, work, and raise a family. Every single day, the men and women of Springfield Township Local 3544 are proud to put on the uniform and answer the call when our neighbors need us most—whether it’s a medical emergency, a structure fire, or a vehicle accident.
We want to share an important update about our department. Since January 2026, your local firefighters and paramedics have been working without a collective bargaining agreement.
Our goal in sharing this is open communication. As contract negotiations continue, our focus remains on providing the highest level of service while ensuring Springfield Township remains a strong, stable department for years to come. Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing a closer look at what goes into maintaining our department and why retaining experienced first responders is so vital to public safety.
Thank you, Springfield Township, for your ongoing support!
