THURSDAY: You can attend an open house at the Regional STEAM High School.

The school is a great example of working together to enhance the future of our young people. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced the renovation plans nearly 7 years ago and look at it today! It’s no longer an empty, deteriorating building – but instead, a powerhouse of innovation helping launch students into the high‑tech careers of tomorrow, and enrollment is open to students from across the county.

The school was made possible through collaboration with New York State, the City of Syracuse, companies including Micron and Amazon, plus the Syracuse City School District and our suburban districts. By working together, we’re empowering today’s young people to become innovators and leaders.

Students and families are encouraged to attend the open house.

Regional STEAM High School is open to all Onondaga County high school students who want to connect learning with college, careers and industries shaping our region, writes principal.

It’s a sunny fall day, but today, County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II was talking a wintertime favorite: Wegmans Lights on the Lake.

He visited Onondaga Lake Park to help announce the details of this year’s event, which runs from November 21 through January 4. There will be some new sights and surprises along the way - including something inspired by Onondaga County Parks.

He shared the story of our growing community and emphasized the vital role public transportation plays in ensuring everyone can meet our and benefit from it. Agencies from across are gathered at The Oncenter to talk transit, connect, collaborate, and learn from each other.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🩷

Today, Onondaga County employees were encouraged by County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II to wear pink to work and help raise awareness. According to the Onondaga County Health Department, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime and over 85% of women who develop it do not have any family history of the disease.

Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early when it may be easier to treat. FREE mammograms are available for women age 40-74 who do not have health insurance.

County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II recently stopped by Leadership Greater Syracuse’s Local Leadership Initiative class, where he spoke with students about why Onondaga County is such a promising place to stay after graduation, including the many professional and personal opportunities available. This class is offered in partnership with Syracuse University and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and the County Executive is happy to visit regularly.

This week, Onondaga County welcomed the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) fall conference, bringing leaders from across together to tackle major issues facing our counties - from the rise of data centers to expanding state mandates and growing electricity and utility costs.

County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II took part in the Board of Directors meeting and chaired the County Executives' meeting. Deputy County Executive for Economic Development & Planning Billy Barlow participated in a discussion of energy needs and infrastructure for large-scale economic development projects.

County Executive McMahon also hosted a welcome dinner at the Crouse Health Harborview Aquarium (the first event held at it) and attended the conference’s closing dinner at Syracuse University.

Thanks to NYSAC for choosing Onondaga County this year. This conference is a reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together, strengthen our unity and highlight the shared purpose that moves all of our counties forward.
