We had a fun time yesterday at the Careers and Costumes networking event at OCC. Dispatcher Bob rocked his costume! And we met many students and faculty interested in 911 operations. Look for us in November at the Gordon Student Center for the Career Showcase on November 6th and 12th.

Halloween is fast approaching!! Here are some safety tips for anyone and everyone!!

👻If you accidentally contact 9-1-1, don't hang up. Stay on the line and let them know that you do not have an emergency. When you hang up, the 9-1-1 telecommunicator will have to call you back in order to ensure you are safe.

Happy First Responders Day and thank you all for your continued service!!
Congress designated October 28 as First Responders Day in 2017. Thank you to all first responders for their dedication to serving their communities every day.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As we bring the month to a close, let’s remember that raising awareness and getting checked could lead to early detection and saving lives. 1 in 8 women develop breast cancer.

DEA National Drug Takeback Day
This weekend, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is partnering with area pharmacies to get unused and expired medication off the streets! This anonymous takeback ensures that the medication is disposed of and doesn't make its way onto the streets or abused by those suffering from addiction. Please see that attached photo for area Wegmans and Walgreens that are participating.

A very special shout out to one of our own, Tim E! Mental Health is an important area of focus for our employees, and we applaud the efforts made for all first responders for effective mental health assistance, both on and off the job.

🎃👻 Halloween is creeping up, Onondaga County!
Our Community Relations team will be out and about at events all month—spreading Halloween safety (and candy… lots of candy). Keep an eye on our page to see where we’ll pop up next!
On Halloween night, Onondaga County Deputies will be patrolling neighborhoods to help keep our little ghosts and goblins safe while they trick-or-treat. 🧙♀️🚓
Treat Yourself to These Safety Tips:
✨ Be seen: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes. Dark cape = cool. Invisible to drivers = not cool.
🧑🤝🧑 Buddy up: Young kids should travel with an adult. Big kids: stick with a group and share your location.
🚦 Cross smart: Use crosswalks, look both ways, and pretend cars are zombies—never assume they see you.
🍬 Check the loot: Have an adult inspect candy before snacking. Save the “taste test” for home.
👟 Costume check: Shorten long hems, choose comfy shoes, and consider face paint instead of masks to keep vision clear.
📱 Lights on, heads up: Carry a flashlight or use your phone light. No scrolling while strolling.
🚗 Drivers: Go extra slow in neighborhoods. Expect excited dinosaurs and superheroes to appear from nowhere.
Follow us here for event updates 👉 we’ll post times and locations so you can come say hi (and grab a treat).
Have a fang-tastic and safe Halloween! 🦇🧡
