Today, the Mayor's Office to Reduce Gun Violence (MORGV) hosted a flag-raising ceremony outside City Hall in recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Month. Mayor Owens standing alongside the Director of the MORGV Pastor Lateef Johnson Kinsey; Congressman John Mannion; District Attorney Fitzpatrick; Chief of Police Rusin; members of the Common Council; SNUG; Moms Demand Action; and community leaders committed to building a safer Syracuse.
As we raise awareness throughout June, we reaffirm that every person deserves to live in a community where they feel safe and secure. Reducing gun violence requires intentional action, meaningful dialogue, and collective responsibility, from our homes and schools to our places of worship, community centers, and neighborhoods.
We honor those whose lives have been lost to gun violence and stand with the families who continue to carry that pain. As we approach National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 5, we remain united in our commitment to prevention, healing, peace, and nonviolent solutions.
