October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, but creating classrooms where every reader thrives requires action year-round.

When instruction is rooted in evidence-aligned science, students with dyslexia gain the support they need to succeed—and every learner benefits.

To help educators, leaders, and families deepen their understanding, we’ve highlighted six books available now in The Reading League Shop:

📚 “The Adult Side of Dyslexia” by Kelli Sandman-Hurley

📚 “Calling All Neurons!” by Lori Josephson

📚 “Dyslexia & Spelling: Making Sense of it All” by Kelli Sandman-Hurley

📚 “Undiagnosed: The Ugly Side of Dyslexia” by Ameer Baraka

📚 “Dyslexia Advocate!” by Kelli Sandman-Hurley

📚 “Conquering Dyslexia: A Guide to Early Detection and Intervention for Teachers and Families” by Jan Hasbrouck

Together, we can bring impactful, evidence-aligned strategies into classrooms, schools, and homes.

A student can follow a conversation easily but still struggle with the language of a complex school text. Why?

Dr. Julie Van D**e explores why this happens in the latest issue of The Reading League Journal. Every day spoken language is fundamentally different from the formal, academic language in school texts.

She shares practical ways to bridge the gap, including quick routines and simple visuals you can use right away, without losing reading time.

What does Sold a Story Season 2 mean for Pre-K language and literacy instruction?

In the first two episodes, Emily Hanford explores the work of Zig Engelmann and the importance of intentional, explicit teaching. But what do these ideas mean for today's Pre-K classrooms?

In a newly featured post, Kari Kurto, Director of Policy and Partnerships at The Reading League, connects the conversation to evidence-aligned early literacy instruction and explores how educators can combine explicit teaching with play, exploration, and meaningful language experiences.

She also highlights five important considerations for evaluating Pre-K curricula, drawing on The Reading League's newly released Pre-K Curriculum Evaluation Guidelines.

In too many middle and high schools, MTSS has become a paperwork exercise or a compliance loop rather than a system that actually helps struggling readers.

Secondary schedules are tough, but tiered support can work without breaking your master schedule. We need to shift from passive identification to targeted instruction.

Join Elisabeth Lamoureaux, Professional Learning Director – Leadership & Implementation at The Reading League, for the third session of our four-part webinar series on adolescent literacy: “From Identification to Instruction: Making MTSS Work for Adolescent Readers.”

đź’ˇ Attendees will leave with:

🔹 The critical shift between RTI and secondary MTSS—and why it changes how you schedule support.

🔹 Clear, actionable insights into what effective Tier 1, 2, and 3 literacy instruction looks like in grades 4–12.

🔹 A practical, data-driven tool to streamline MTSS decision-making in your building immediately.

🗓️ Thursday, Nov 12, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. ET

We've made important progress in advancing evidence-aligned reading instruction in the early grades. But what about students already in middle or high school?

Many adolescent learners continue to struggle with reading, while secondary educators often lack the preparation and resources needed to identify and address those challenges.

In our latest blog, The Reading League's Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Marisa Ramirez Stukey, explores why our commitment to evidence-aligned literacy instruction must extend beyond the early grades—and what that means for supporting adolescent readers and the educators who teach them.

Today, we join in recognizing Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Day as a meaningful opportunity to highlight students whose language challenges may not always be visible.

Children with DLD are at increased risk of experiencing reading difficulties, including dyslexia. The good news is that research shows students with DLD and other learning differences can thrive when we identify their needs early and work together, connecting research to practice, to provide evidence-aligned support.
