It is vital that we condemn transphobia and any other rhetoric that marginalizes people in our campus community. We stand in solidarity with those that have felt attacked by this hatred. Please read our statement above.

In 1865, General Granger announced General Order Number 3 in Galveston Texas. It was 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was made, and this was the latest point went Americans were informed that slaves were free. We celebrate this day because it marks the end of a gross chapter of our history, and has allowed us to write a new story. We celebrate this day because later that year, on December 6, 1865, the 13th amendment, which prohibited slavery, was passed. We celebrate this day because although these were turning points in our American story, subsequent chapters have also been stained by racism. There is much more to be done. We believe that Juneteenth must be a National Holiday and that we must continue working towards solutions to our most harmful systemic problems.

On this Earth Day, we will not only celebrate the great planet on which we live but also think of ways that we can make it better. We will do our part to make this planet a cleaner, greener place. We can advocate for better policies on every level of government to ensure the safety of this world, not just for ourselves but also for future generations. Together, we can protect our planet.
