Yesterday afternoon (10/18/26), Taunton Ladder 5 had the privilege of making “The Arch” with Marcellus Ladder 33 for the final send off of South Onondaga Fire Department Firefighter Kenny Case.

Kenny dedicated many years of his life to serving the community he lived and worked in. He was a proud lifetime member of the Navarino Fire Department and an Active/Life member of the South Onondaga Fire Department.

On behalf of the Taunton Fire Department, we offer our deepest condolences to the Case family.

Working Fire with Occupant Rescue – Solvay Fire District

Friday afternoon (10/16/26), at 13:20 hours, Taunton Ladder 5 was activated for a possible Residential Fire in the Solvay Fire District.

Taunton Ladder 5 (LT. Cox), staffed in quarters, responded on dispatch.

First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and fire emanating from the residence and declared a “Signal 99.” Just prior to the arrival of Ladder 5, an occupant was located and removed from the residence, where crews immediately provided life saving interventions.

Taunton Ladder 5 was third arriving and immediately began to search the residence for any other occupants. No other occupants were located and the ladder’s crew assisted with salvage and overhaul once the fire was under control.

Ladder 5 operated on scene for approximately 1 hour before returning to service.

Vehicle Fire – Taunton Fire District

At 12:37, the Taunton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported pickup truck fire in the 4100 block of Split Rock Road.

Engine 4 (DC Harris), Rescue 1 (FF Ovitt), and Rescue 2 (Lt. Cox) responded on dispatch and arrived approximately three minutes later to find a pickup truck with an active fire in the engine compartment.

Crews quickly stretched a handline and brought the fire under control within three minutes of arrival.

The occupant of the vehicle was evaluated by AMR Ambulance.

After confirming the fire was fully extinguished and the scene was safe, Taunton units turned the incident over to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and returned to service.

After members spent over 5 hours at yesterday evening’s 3rd Alarm Fire, they were right back at it today.

This morning into the afternoon, bunk-in’s, live-in’s, and members spent some much needed time deep cleaning the station, apparatus, and equipment that was previously utilized, or simply needed it.

THIRD ALARM COMMERCIAL FIRE – FAIRMOUNT FIRE DISTRICT

Yesterday evening, at 17:02 hours, Taunton was activated for a possible Residential Structure Fire in the Fairmount Fire District. Multiple callers reported heavy, black smoke in the 3300 block of Milton Ave.

The address was eventually updated to the 4000 block of Box Car Lane, and first arriving units encountered heavy smoke and fire from a single story, storage facility. Command declared a “Signal 99” and a short time later struck a Second Alarm.

Taunton Engine 4 (FF Darling), Ladder 5 (Captain Taylor), and Car 3 (A/C Martin) responded. Engine 6 (FF Duck) remained staffed at station 1 to cover our own district.

Taunton units worked extremely diligently over the course of 5+ hours, against heavy fire conditions with limited access, as well as intermittent water supply issues. The alarm was eventually upgraded to a Third Alarm.

Ladder 5 and Engine 4 returned to service at approximately 22:30 hours while Engine 6 relocated to the fire scene to rotate fresh crews in.

All Taunton units returned to service just before 00:15 hours this morning.

INDUSTRIAL FIRE – SOLVAY FIRE DISTRICT

At 13:09 hours, Taunton Ladder 5 was dispatched to a reported industrial fire on Bridge Street in the Solvay Fire Department district.

Taunton Ladder 5 (Lt. Williams) and Car 2 (DC Harris), staffed in quarters, responded on dispatch along with Solvay Engine 21.

Ladder 5 arrived directly behind Engine 21 as the first-due truck company. Solvay Car 3 established command and reported a large outdoor fire with no structures involved, requesting Ladder 5 set up for aerial master stream operations.

Once a sustained water supply was established, crews placed the aerial master stream into operation and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

At 10:36 hours yesterday morning, Taunton was activated for a Residential Fire in the Onondaga Hill Fire District. Taunton Ladder 5 (FF Darling) handled the alarm.

The initial 911 caller reported seeing black smoke from the structure, and hearing the fire alarm going off. First arriving fire units found smoke throughout the structure with high heat and low visibility.

Ladder 5 arrived 4th due and handled the responsibility of securing utilities, and “opening up” walls and ceilings to expose any hidden fire.

The fire was primarily contained to the basement of the residence and was called under control after approximately 20 minutes, being held at a “Signal 98.”

Taunton units operated on scene for approximately an hour and a half before returning to service.

Today, we reflect and remember the tragic events from 25 years ago.

Today we remember the 343 firefighters, 63 law enforcement officers, 8 EMS workers and numerous others who were lost at WTC.
