Yesterday evening just after 17:00 hours, Taunton Ladder 5 was activated for a possible Residential Fire in the Onondaga Hill Fire District. The initial 911 caller reported that the back of the house was on fire.
Taunton Ladder 5 (FF Ovitt), staffed in quarters, responded on dispatch, along with Car 1 (Chief Phelan), and Car 3 (A/C Martin).
South Onondaga Car 1 arrived on scene with smoke and fire from the rear of the residence, declaring a “Signal 99” (working fire) and assuming Command.
Taunton Car 3 arrived moments after, and assumed the Operations role. Taunton Ladder 5 arrived 2nd due, splitting crews to accomplish simultaneous tasks.
Taunton “51” stretched a handline to the 2nd floor to suppress fire that was in the knee walls and attic of the residence, while Taunton “52” threw ground ladders for egress as well as prepared for vertical ventilation. Taunton Car 1 and Fairmount Car 1 vented the roof.
Taunton units operated on scene for just under 2 hours before returning to service.
While Ladder 5 and the Chiefs were operating at the fire, Taunton Engine 4 remained staffed at Station 1 for any additional alarms.

Saturday, May 9th, members traveled to the South Onondaga Fire Department to participate in “Rural Water Operations.” Hosted by SOFD Assistant Chief P. Abbott, Taunton and South Onondaga members trained on drafting and “big water” tactics.
Though the Taunton Fire District has a plethora of fire hydrants, drafting skills are paramount in some of our mutual aid territories. And we owe it to not only our mutual aid partners, but our mutual aid communities and residents, to be prepared for whatever situation may arise.

Yesterday evening, Engine 4, Engine 6, Ladder 5, Rescue 1, and Car 3 were out in the district for Drill.
Companies trained and refreshed on “big water” operations, including “blitz fire” ground monitors, deck gun and aerial master stream applications.

At 09:15 hours this morning, Taunton was activated for a possible house fire in the Fairmount Fire District. Fairmount Engine 4 was first arriving, finding heavy fire from the residence, declaring a Signal 99.
Taunton Ladder 5 (A/C Martin) handled the alarm. Ladder 5 was fourth arriving and was assigned as the search company for the basement division. Ladder 5’s searches proved negative and the crew transitioned to “opening up” on the first floor to expose any hidden fire in the walls or ceiling.
Ladder 5 operated on scene for just under an hour and a half before returning to service.
