This year’s program includes a special recognition of local Indigenous leaders and elders whose advocacy and wisdom inspire future generations. Featured artists include: Jerome Waterman (Onondaga Nation, Beaver Clan) sharing his wampum jewelry, the Haudenosaunee Singers and Dancers leading participatory Haudenosaunee social dancing, the Onondaga Youth Dance Group, Oren Lyons (Onondaga Nation, Turtle Clan) sharing his paintings and vast historical knowledge, and Tom Porter (Mohawk, Bear Clan), a long-time Haudenosaunee educator whose teachings are sought across the country.
The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Festival is organized by Onondaga Nation citizens in collaboration with Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON)/Syracuse Peace Council and We of Italian and Syracuse Heritage CNY.
