The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department congratulates one of our own, Firefighter and Coach Neemann on leading his cross country team to State!

Since 2022, Coach Neeman has consistently helped his athletes compete at the highest level, demonstrating dedication, teamwork, and leadership.

Thomas brings that same commitment to our department, serving on numerous committees and continually giving back to our community.

Coach, we’re proud to serve alongside you! Thank you for being a role model, a community leader, and a great representative of Syracuse.

Join us today around 1 PM at the high school as we es**rt Coach Neeman and the team on their way to Kearney! Come out, show your support, and help us send them off in Syracuse style!

Best of luck to you and the runners at State! You’ve already made us proud!

Today, we pause to remember September 11th. We honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders who ran toward danger. As a volunteer department, we know service takes many forms: training, preparing, maintaining equipment, late-night calls, and yes, even keeping our community connected here. 25 years on, we still carry the weight of that day and the promise that we will show up. Always remembering, always ready, always grateful.

State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program Supports SVFD

The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department is proud to be a recipient of the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, an initiative offered in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

At our monthly training last night, local State Farm Agent Eric Ford - State Farm Agency joined our volunteers as we shared our appreciation and excitement for this opportunity and what it means for the safety of our members.

Through this program, SVFD was able to purchase protective masks for our firefighters to use during vegetation and wildland fires. Grass, field, ditch and other vegetation fires are among the most common emergencies our department responds to. These incidents can expose firefighters to heavy smoke, ash, dust and airborne debris while they work in hot, dry and windy conditions. The new masks provide another important layer of protection for the volunteers who respond when our neighbors need help.

Preparing for Harvest Season

Our training night was also an opportunity to prepare for harvest season beginning next month. Department members worked together to inspect, organize and prepare our apparatus and equipment for the increased potential for field and vegetation fires that accompanies harvest. Being ready before the call comes in is an important part of protecting our firefighters, our agricultural community and the residents we serve.

We greatly appreciate State Farm, Eric Ford and the National Volunteer Fire Council for their investment in volunteer firefighter health and safety. The NVFC is the leading nonprofit membership association representing volunteer fire and emergency medical services and works to provide departments with education, advocacy, leadership development, resources and programs that improve responder health and safety.

For more than 100 years, State Farm has worked to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected and realize their dreams. Programs such as the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program are another example of supporting the people who work to keep their communities safe.

Most importantly, thank you to the Syracuse community and all of the residents throughout our fire district. Your continued support allows our volunteers to train, prepare and invest in equipment that helps us serve our neighbors safely and effectively.

We are fortunate to have so many organizations, businesses and residents standing behind our volunteers. Thank you for supporting SVFD!

Sometimes the best training opportunities come from a little creativity.

This morning, members of the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department completed a repair on a critical component of our primary engine and needed to test the pump primer to ensure it was ready for service.

With the extreme heat and a desire to be good stewards of our water resources, our volunteers came up with a great solution. One of our members needed to lower the water level in their swimming pool for maintenance, so instead of letting that water go to waste, we put it to work. The water was repurposed to successfully test the repair while also giving our crew a chance to practice drafting from an alternative water source—valuable experience that could prove critical during an emergency.

It's a great example of volunteers thinking outside the box, protecting our resources, and always looking for ways to improve our readiness.

Great job to everyone involved! And with these hot temperatures, please remember to stay hydrated and take care of yourselves.

Last night at our monthly meeting, the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department was proud to recognize two of our newest firefighters, Jasper Keran & Max Brammier, as they were presented with their black helmets and officially welcomed as full members of the department.

Every new member begins their journey with SVFD as a rookie firefighter, wearing a yellow helmet during their probationary period. During this time, they are expected to attend meetings, participate in training and drills, respond to calls when available, and learn the skills, responsibilities, and culture of our department. After demonstrating their commitment and successfully completing this process, the membership carefully reviews their progress and votes on advancing them to full membership. As part of that tradition, they receive a black helmet, symbolizing their transition from probationary firefighter to full member of the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department.

Congratulations to Jasper and Max on this well-earned milestone. We are proud of the dedication, effort, and countless hours they have invested to reach this point, and we look forward to serving alongside them for many years to come.

If you've ever considered giving back to your community and are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, we'd love to talk with you. Send the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department a message to learn more about joining our team.

Small communities are built on neighbors helping neighbors, and today we want to extend a sincere thank you to the incredible team at FirstBank of Nebraska.

Their employees volunteered their time to work the local ballpark concession stand, and they generously donated the proceeds to support our department and the volunteers who serve this community.

This is what makes small-town Nebraska so special. Friends, families, local businesses, and volunteers coming together to support one another in selfless ways. Acts like these make a real difference and help ensure we can continue serving our community whenever we're needed.

From all of us at the Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department, thank you to everyone at FirstBank of Nebraska for your generosity, your community spirit, and your commitment to making Syracuse an even better place to call home.
