Indian braves would use the riverbank, red silica clay as their war paint. Thank you for your interest in my herd of American Alpines.

OLENTANGY is an Algonquin Indian name meaning 'River of Red Face Paint' and a river valley that flows through central Ohio & The Ohio State University main campus, my Alma Mater. I have been selectively breeding Olentangy dairy goats for the past twenty years, and prior to that under the prefix, M&M ACRES. My mother purchased my first ADGA registered goat in 1982 and every doe in the herd descends from that first 4-H kid. My first herd name, M&M Acres translated as “Mom & Me” or “Margaret & Mark”...those were fun days. The herd name changed in 1992 when I obtained my ADGA judges license to the current prefix. OLENTANGY is an Algonquin Indian name meaning 'River of Red Face Paint'. The Olentangy river flows through central Ohio and The Ohio State University, where I am a proud alumnus. My current herd consists of 25 American Alpines and 2 Purebred LaManchas. The herd relocated 2,400 miles from Northwest Ohio to Western Washington in April 2001 where our new home has the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Rainier, the iconic image of the state.

The one thing I didn’t take the batteries out of & Amazon can’t deliver until tomorrow…how many different kind of batteries are in your AI kit?!??

Breeding season is underway with thanks to friends who helped today as I’m still restricted in my post operation recovery (I had an appendectomy 2 weeks ago)…the great news is that over 1/2 the herd is bred! 🤞🏻

A special thanks to Alexis for these beautiful dahlias from her garden! I always say that everyone should unexpectedly receive flowers (not for a birthday/anniversary or a holiday) at least once and everyone should give flowers to someone for no reason to gift a smile & pay it forward at least once…you never know how much they might need it to keep on keeping on. I also want to say thank you for the handwritten letter I got in the mail today, I’d love to share these flowers with you V. 😊

The for sale page of the website has been updated & I plan to finally update the doe pages over the next month. I have been working on a sales list (old school catalog) that I hope to have available until the website is updated. My 2027 plans are to reduce the herd further after the National Show in July. I will have some show champions available that won’t necessarily be over-the-hill and hoping to find herds where they can stretch their legs further as opposed to merely being brood does.

CH (pend) OLENTANGY JIVE BLUE CHIP
~1st/1stU milking yearling @ Washington Stare Fair
~3rd Best Udder of Breed

BLUEY got lots of attention at the fair from other exhibitors who placed their bets on her to be a future star. She paired with maternal sister CHIPENGALI to be 1st Produce of Dam & was a part of our 5th place Dairy Gerd in Show.

BLUEY will be bred to +*B GCH Tempo Aquila MasterCraftsman EX92 for March or April kids. Her daughters could one day be an ELEVENTH consecutive generation permanent champion…how many of those exists in any breed?!?

OLENTANGY SYNERGY TELLERYN A/I
@ left: 1st Junior Kid
OLENTANGY ROCKSTAR CHIP Z’NUFF A/I

I was only able to bring 2 Alpine kids to the state fair and they did well winning their classes & paired with TELLURIA (Senior yearling) to be the Runner-up Junior Trio in Show.

Z’NUFF will be bred to *B Tempo Aquila Standing Prestige for April kids and TELLERYN will either stay a dry yearling or be bred to Prestige for a fall freshening.

GCH (pend) OLENTANGY MASTER CHIPENGALI 11*M
~GCH & BU; 1st/1stU 2 year-old @ Washington State Fair

https://genetics.adga.org/GoatDetail.aspx?RegNumber=A002437634

One week ago, being able to exhibit at my State Fair was in serious doubt as I was in the hospital for an emergency surgery. I am very fortunate for great friends who enabled me to exhibit 8 does at the fair (I entered 23 😳) and now home. CHIPENGALI hasn’t been shown since finishing in May, she appraised VG89-FF in July and her mammary is as impressive in September as ever.

She will be bred AI to the 2024 Alpine Premier Sire, +*B Kickapoo-Valley Make It Jive, who is the sire of CHIP’s yearling milker, maternal sister, BLUE CHIP.

Buck collection for 2026 is off the "to do list" just intime for breeding season for you to add a sire who could certainly help you breed your first EX93 or higher daughter...his pedigree is stacked with them!

Semen is marketed through Blue Mountain Genetics and they are just beginning their fall tour and will be at the ADGA convention in Indianapolis in October where you can pick up while there.

My thanks to our entire collection stop & hosts Evie Harry & Dorothy Harry, Tessa, Michelle, and Ron & Katrina for your help in getting him collected & helping load him back into the truck while I was sick.

OLENTANGY CHIMAY TELLURIA AI
~2x BIS, 2x GCH; 2x 1st Senior Yearling @ Josephine County Fair

Sire: ++*B Olentangy OAA Chimay
Dam: GCH Olentangy Master Tellurion 10*M EX91

Pictorial evidence of my “white ribbon” showmanship, RIA’s ears say it all! 🤦🏻‍♂️ she really is a nice doe that I would have shown earlier in the year but a leg injury had sidelined her since April. RIA will either be a recipient for a friend’s ET/IVF program if that happens, or she will be bred to *B Tempo Aquila Standing Prestige for later kids if she doesn’t settle.

Looking through photos from today’s Josephine County/Rogue Valley DGA show in Grants Pass, Oregon, I’d have to give myself a “white ribbon” for my showmanship in how I setup the does for photos….not really any are usable so I used this one that Amanda Hanson was so nice to take & used a watercolor filter. I think this looks like the best option to visually preserve the days events!

I wasn’t planning on making this long, 390 mile drive but something my appraiser said after my session last month made me rethink the decision. After all the scoring, we were discussing dairy goat Facebook Nation & the current narrative(s) being pontificated since the National Show.

My takeaway from that conversation is this; You can either give up & go away & see whose able to pickup the missing institutional pieces…or you can keep on, keeping on…and over time the facts speak for themselves…with-or-without any acknowledgment. The facts of today were 3x BIS, 4x GCH for a guy on the long-way-home in a truck with 4 goats in 98* heat. 🤷🏻‍♂️

America’s greatest dairy goat exhibition entries are closing soon, will you be Doing the Puyallup! with the most generous dairy goat community next month? Get your entries in to celebrate the end of PNW show season 2026!

OLENTANGY SYNERGY TELLERYN
~1x BIS, 1x GCH; 3x 1st Junior Kid @ RVDGA

Sire: ++*B SG Redwood Hills Tribute Synergy
Dam: SGCH Olentangy Yukon Tellingly 9*M EX93

Fun story about this kid’s origin…I was having my bathrooms remodeled last fall and my contractor had taken over half of my garage with materials & equipment to store out of the rain. I normally AI in the garage (that’s where my tanks & repro equipment is stored) so I dragged out a milk stand to the driveway behind the contractor’s equipment trailer & started to AI Lingly. The contractor came outside to get something, he stopped & watched & I explained what I was doing & I said, “I could use another hand, hold this! (the inserted speculum & sheath)”…and that’s how Lawrence & I made a baby. 😉 🐐

OLENTANGY OCT AURUM
~1x BIS, 1x GCH, 2x RGCH; 2x 1st Senior Yearling @ RVDGA

Sire: +*B GCH Olentangy Chimay Trademark EX90
Dam: Olentangy Lance Airh 9*M EX91

Thanks again to Gail Swanson for organizing the Lelia Berry Memorial show @ the Jackson County Fair in Southern Oregon last weekend. It was a very hot day but really one of the best of my summer. I’m on my way home now from judging another hot one (102* in Great Falls, MT) @ the Montana State Fair, a show run by another dedicated, longtime ADGA member Gwen Dormandy. This is my third time judging that fair & the 4-H served ice cream next to the showring was as good as ever!
