Our largest school event yet! Florida Road Team Captains partnered with America’s Road Team to bring our Share the Road safety presentation to 1,765 students at a Tampa high school. Students learned about the “No Zone” and how to drive safely around commercial vehicles. Our Road Team Captains offer this firsthand education free to schools and community groups across Florida. When Hurricane Isaias postponed this week’s Share the Road school presentations in the Panhandle, our Florida Road Team shifted gears. Professional drivers are often among the first to respond in a crisis, and these Road Team Captains from Walmart stepped up to hand out supplies to communities in affected areas. We’re proud of the work they put in to help our neighbors.

To our carrier members keeping Florida moving safely in the wake of Hurricane Isaias: check FL511 for road closures and bridge status before every trip.

Emergency trucking relief remains in effect:
• FLHSMV hours-of-service, registration, and IFTA/IRP relief runs through December 5.
• FDOT's emergency size and weight permit and weigh station bypass run through October 20.

FTA is monitoring fuel supplies and working with partner agencies.

Hurricane Isaias waivers, permits, and emergency orders are in effect for carriers in Florida, covering size and weight, hours of service, registration, IFTA/IRP, weigh station bypass, and limited use of dyed diesel.

It's Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and Florida Trucking Association is spotlighting drivers who represent the best of the industry. George Moore is an FTA Driver of the Month from UPS. With 36 years at UPS and 1.5 million safe miles, he is a member of the UPS Circle of Honor for 25-plus consecutive accident-free years. He helped build the New Feeder Driver Safety program in Jacksonville and coordinates community efforts for Toys for Tots, Wreaths Across America, and Ronald McDonald House. He served as a Florida Road Team member, educating students on safe driving. Congratulations, George, on a career of giving back at every turn.

It's Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and Florida Trucking Association is spotlighting drivers who represent the best of the industry. Michael Smith of Trans-Phos is Florida Trucking Association's 2026 Driver of the Year. An Army veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm who earned the Army Achievement Medal, he carried that same sense of duty into 30 years of driving, all with one company, and three million safe miles as a certified driver trainer. In November 2022, he acted quickly at the scene of a serious accident and helped save a woman's life, a moment his colleagues at Trans-Phos still point to as proof of his character. Selected by an independent panel of judges from law enforcement, regulatory, and transportation backgrounds, Michael stood out for a career built on safety, skill, and courage both on and off the road. Congratulations, Michael, a hero and this year's top honoree.

It's Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and Florida Trucking Association is spotlighting drivers who represent the best of the industry. Keith Radford is an FTA Driver of the Month from Publix Super Markets. He has given 41 years to Publix, 30 of them driving, logging more than 2.4 million safe miles without a single accident. His dispatch lead calls him a true ambassador for the Publix brand. Congratulations, Keith, on 41 years of showing up.
