In accordance with Section 501.171, F.S., FLHSMV is issuing this substitute notice because it may not have current mailing addresses for impacted customers who no longer hold a valid Florida driver license or identification card or who previously had a vehicle titled in Florida.

FLHSMV has begun notifying individuals potentially affected by the data breach. To protect the identity of those impacted, the Department has partnered with Sontiq, Inc., a TransUnion company, to offer complimentary identity and credit monitoring services and $1 million identity theft insurance for 1 year. The Department takes the privacy and security of Floridians very seriously and is working diligently to implement further safeguards that will mitigate the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future. Hurricane has reached the Panhandle, bringing hazardous driving conditions with powerful winds, heavy downpours, and widespread flooding on the roads.

If you must travel, follow these crucial safety guidelines to protect yourself and those you are traveling with.

-Wipers On, Headlights On: If your windshield wipers are running, Florida law requires your headlights to be turned on. DO NOT turn on your hazard lights while driving, as this confuses other motorists.
-Slow Down: Wet roads significantly decrease your tires' traction. Give yourself plenty of extra braking distance and take it slow.
-Reduce Distractions: Put the phone away and keep both hands on the wheel. Severe weather requires 100% of your focus to react to sudden hydroplaning or debris.
-Turn Around, Don't Drown: Never attempt to drive through flooded areas. Moving water can easily sweep your vehicle away, and hidden road washouts or deep potholes can cause severe damage.

Stay tuned to local officials and check road conditions before heading out. Monitor real-time traffic and road closures at FL511.com. Safe travels, Florida.

With Hurricane approaching our state, local officials have already issued mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders for vulnerable areas. If you are ordered to leave, do not waste time, or wait until the last minute.

If you are preparing to hit the road, make sure use these essential evacuation guidelines to keep your loved ones safe:

-Fuel Up Early: Stop at a gas station as soon as possible. Keep your vehicle fully serviced and maintain a full tank of gas in case you encounter long lines or highway delays.
-Plan Your Destination: Plan your route entirely ahead of time. Know exactly where you are going—whether it is a friend's home inland, a hotel, or a public emergency shelter.
-Pack Food and Water: Pack enough shelf-stable food and bottled water for everyone in the vehicle, including your pets, to last the duration of the trip.
-Withdraw Cash: Grab cash from an ATM in advance. If the storm causes widespread power outages, credit card machines and ATMs will be offline.
-Have Patience: Thousands of your neighbors are hitting the roads at the exact same time. Expect heavy delays, slow down, and remain patient with your fellow motorists.

Give yourself plenty of time, monitor local news for zone updates, and please drive carefully. State Troopers are stationed along major routes to assist motorists.

You can find open shelters near you and verify your evacuation zone at FloridaDisaster.org/PlanPrepare.

Ask yourself: if you were in a crash, couldn’t use your phone, and were barely conscious or severely injured…how would you let your friends or family know?

On December 7, 2005, a tragic car crash took the life of Christine Olson’s daughter, Tiffany. Without any contact information available, it took several hours for Christine to receive the notification of her daughter’s passing.

Today, we recognize 20 years of the Emergency Contact Information (ECI) program and the partnership with Christine and TIFF’s Initiative (To Inform Families First) to improve timely, secure notification to families when it’s needed most. ECI is a secure system that allows Floridians to designate an emergency contact that law enforcement can quickly access to notify loved ones in an emergency, even across state lines.

Register your Emergency Contact Information today at FLHSMV.gov/ECI.

Every second counts.
