Oak Ridge Elementary

Directions Website

Oak Ridge Elementary Oak Ridge is a public Pre-K through 5th grade school. As a people, we know that every community or building has its own story to tell.

This story is often one with ups and downs, trials and successes. This clichĆ© is no different than that of our very own Oak Ridge Elementary. And the story goes……
In September of 1969, Oak Ridge Elementary began to service the educational needs of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The site was designed with an open concept to provide a quality education to the students of Leon County. To ensure that the site could meet the needs of the students and the community it served, Leon County developed the school on 21.8 acres in Southeast Tallahassee. Upon opening, the school was surrounded by large oak trees that would later be cut down and replaced with pine trees; the name ā€œOak Ridgeā€ stuck however and to this day Oak Ridge Elementary is a school of pride, responsibility, and respect. To evolve over time, the building has grown and several upgrades have been made to ensure that educators and students, alike, have all tools and materials needed to be successful. The open concept has since been closed off and several individual classroom now occupy that space. In addition, two adjoining wings have been added to address the growing population. Over the years, many students have walked the halls of Oak Ridge, and shown various levels of success. Levels ranging from academic excellence, to leadership formal/ informal, and even athletics. Many teachers have started their extensive careers at Oak Ridge and have gone on to excel and become leaders in all areas of our District. Some say the ā€œspecialā€ is in the water at ā€œThe Ridgeā€, but honestly the special is in the beliefs we, as a school, and community share. Today, Oak Ridge Elementary continues its strong tradition of developing and exceeding the educational journey of the students it serve, through engaging , safe and respectful learning opportunities that prepare its students of today for the requirements and demands of the world tomorrow. The motto at Oak Ridge continues to be ā€œTake Flight and Soar to New Heightsā€.

šŸ¦…šŸ’™ Thank You, Oak Ridge Family! šŸ’™šŸ¦…

A huge thank you to all of the dads, father figures, family members, community partners, staff, and volunteers who helped make Dads Take Your Child to School Day such a tremendous success at Oak Ridge Elementary School!

Your presence sent a powerful message to our students that education matters and that they have a strong support system cheering them on every day. We are especially grateful to our local law enforcement officers, school board representation Darryl Jones for Leon County School Board, community organizations, and school team members who took the time to invest in our scholars and celebrate the importance of family engagement.

Together, we showed our students what it means to support, encourage, and inspire one another.

Dear LCS Families,

Following multiple weather briefings with the Leon County Emergency Management team regarding Hurricane Isaias, Leon County Schools will follow an early release schedule on Friday, October 9. This decision prioritizes the safety of our students, families and staff.

Students will be dismissed at the following times:

High School: 11:20 a.m.
Elementary School: 12:20 p.m.
Middle School: 1:20 p.m.
All afterschool activities are cancelled, including afterschool care programs such as 21st Century and Extended Day. Please make arrangements for your child’s transportation and care based on these earlier dismissal times.

District offices and school campuses will close at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.

We will continue monitoring conditions with our emergency management partners and notify families of any additional changes. For the latest hurricane forecasts and advisories, visit the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to keep our school community safe.
