FHP’s UAS Troopers are out this morning monitoring river flood levels and its impact on bridges, roadways, and communities. Troopers also continue escorting utility crews and critical supplies into impacted areas, and cut-and-top teams have now completed more than 100 debris removal missions.

Before you travel, check current road closures at FL511.com. If you must go out, use extra caution, slow down, and allow extra time. Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don't drown.

We are proud to announce that the Florida Highway Patrol’s Troopers of the Month for June 2026 are Trooper Eric Abraham and Trooper Patrick Broome of Troop A, due to their courageous actions in stopping an armed and dangerous individual.

On the evening of June 24, the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center was notified by Panama City Police that a white BMW SUV had fled eastbound on US Highway 98 toward Tyndall Air Force Base. Troopers Abraham and Broome responded to intercept the suspect vehicle.

Soon thereafter, Trooper Broome located the SUV traveling eastbound along US Highway 98 through Tyndall Air Force Base. He attempted a traffic stop with the suspect driver refusing to stop. The suspect continued fleeing and Trooper Broome soon executed a successful Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end. The suspect exited the vehicle armed with an AR 15 style r***e, pointed it at Trooper Broome, and attempted to kill the trooper by firing approximately 15 rounds at Trooper Broome. Troopers Broome and Abraham returned fire, striking the suspect who then dropped the weapon, thus ending the threat.

The suspect then began complying with commands as the troopers attempted to take him into custody. While securing the suspect, he again stood and continued to aggressively resist arrest, causing Trooper Broome to deploy his TASER to gain compliance. Trooper Broome then handcuffed the suspect, securing him into custody and ending the public and personal threat.

Neither of the troopers were struck by gunfire, despite numerous rounds striking the front left area of Trooper Broome’s patrol vehicle.

We teamed up with FHP Orlando for Stranded Motorist Awareness Week, setting up at a few of our service plazas to talk with drivers face-to-face about what to do if their car breaks down out there.

The advice is simple: pull as far right as you can, hit your hazards, and dial *347. A Road Ranger will be on the way, free of charge.

Good to see the community come out and connect with our team and FHP.
