Ben Albritton will vote against Amendment 3, the tax cut his Senate put on the ballot

Senate President Ben Albritton will vote no on Amendment 3. He presided over the Senate that voted 30-9 in June to put it on the ballot.

The Florida Sheriffs Association posted Albritton’s statement Tuesday. It opens: “I’m voting no on Amendment 3.”

The Wauchula Republican, a fourth-generation citrus grower, said the amendment would eliminate up to 30% of resources for Florida’s rural counties, “gutting essential support for law enforcement, emergency response services and critical infrastructure.”

“Tax relief shouldn’t fall hardest on the communities least able to absorb it,” he said.

He said the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission, which convenes next year, is the place to design property tax reform that is “meaningful, reasonable and balanced.”
