🦋 Together, we “live to give”, a message that so perfectly reflects the heart of this work. 💛

This morning, we were delighted to bring together a wonderful group of Hillsborough County school counselors for a DOCS Parenting Overview. A special thank-you to Andrea Simpson, counselor at Heritage Elementary School, for hosting this gathering and creating space for us to share and collaborate.

Much like the vibrant mural behind us, our work is filled with color, growth, hope, and possibility. 🌸🌤️ Just as every butterfly and flower adds something special to the picture, every professional, family, and community partner brings something invaluable to the circle of support surrounding our children.

Because when we give of our knowledge, our compassion, and our hearts, we create something bigger than any one of us could create alone.

Moving from Blueprint to Implementation of the Trauma-Informed Service Delivery in Two Schools: A Quasi-Experimental Intervention Study

The study examined a tiered model of trauma-informed schools, including staff training and CARE coaching designed to strengthen positive adult–student interactions.

📝 Key findings included:

• Staff who participated in Tier 1 interventions demonstrated significant improvements in their interactions with students.

• Following two CARE coaching sessions, participating staff increased positive interactions, reaching or exceeding the recommended 50% positive-to-50% directive interaction ratio.

• Improvements in staff interaction patterns were maintained across implementation years.

• Students participating in the Tier 2 intervention showed improvements on measures of posttraumatic stress.

The authors also highlight an important lesson: meaningful systems change requires thoughtful planning, collaboration with key stakeholders, and careful attention to implementation.

At DOCS Parenting, we value research that helps us better understand how evidence-based strategies, supportive relationships, and responsive interactions can promote positive outcomes for children and families.

We’re proud to share research that contributes to the growing conversation around child development, behavior, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practice. 💙

Research matters. Implementation matters. Relationships matter.

This National Postdoc Appreciation Week, we are proud to celebrate Rose Johnson Rodriguez, a valued member of the DOCS Parenting Team at University of South Florida Health, Department of Pediatrics. 💚

Rose’s clinical and research interests center on multiculturalism, youth, families, and the parent-child relationship, with a passion for understanding how childhood trauma can shape relationships and emotional well-being. Her experience working with youth and families across school, outpatient, and inpatient settings has deepened her appreciation for the ways mental health concerns can impact the entire family system. She is especially passionate about trauma-informed family therapy and parent coaching, helping parents reflect on their own experiences, understand how those experiences may influence their parenting, and build the relationships they hope to have with their children.

As we celebrate more than 300 postdocs at USF, we recognize the curiosity, expertise, and dedication they bring to research, education, and professional practice. Rose exemplifies the dedication and passion that make this community so impactful.

Rose, thank you for the knowledge, energy, and compassion you bring to your work and to DOCS Parenting. We are grateful to have you as part of our community! 🌎✨

Join us in celebrating Rose and postdoctoral scholars everywhere during National Postdoc Appreciation Week, Sept. 21–25!

Behind these smiling faces… there’s bagels, coffee, conversation, data, big ideas, tiny victories, and probably at least one person saying, “Wait… what if we tried it this way?”

We love a Monday morning like this…A room full of caregivers and professionals coming together with different perspectives, and one very big thing in common: we want to make life a little better for children and the people who love them.

Sometimes that looks like helping a child navigate a tricky transition…

Sometimes it’s teaching communication, patience, or how to wait your turn...

Sometimes it’s teaching children empathy…

And sometimes it means diving into research and data to ask, “How can we do this even better?”

It’s not always easy, and it’s definitely not always glamorous, but this group keeps showing up with dedication, perseverance, curiosity, and heart.
