2023 Field Day has come to a close and it was a challenge! We endured some difficult band conditions but stayed the course. Hillsborough County ARES RACES operated in the 2F (Emergency Operations Center) class in the West Central Florida Section. We welcomed 15 visitors to our site and 6 hams operated voice and digital modes. Field Day served as a valuable training exercise for our members as we encounter noise and interference when operating during tropical storms and hurricanes.

Hillsborough County ARES RACES accepted the ARRL Field Day challenge of making contacts using an alternative power source. We successfully made the required five contacts via voice using a lithium iron phosphate battery that was fully charged using solar power. This was a great exercise that improved our capability to operate off the power grid.

Shortly before we shut down operations last night, we had a special Field Day visitor. Mike Douglass W4MDD, ARRL West Central Florida Section Manager, stopped in after a very long day of travel visiting Field Day sites in our region. Hillsborough County ARES RACES appreciates the visit and show of support from ARRL leadership.
We resumed this morning at 8AM and are still working hard for contacts.
