Harbour Island Athletic Club is set to close permanently on February 28th. This will instantly become one of the most intriguing redevelopment opportunities in the Bay area - over 6 acres of prime real estate on Harbour Island.
We are mindful of the loss of recreation opportunities this will lead too. Ideally, the city could purchase some of it and make a park, or require park space in the inevitable redevelopment.
Nonetheless, we are excited for the potential mixed-use, walkable development this could and should lead too.
You know we love density, but something like this could also be built out more similar to a St. Armands Circle "village" and still be a huge addition to Tampa's urban core.
