The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners declared May as . Chief Judge Christopher Sabella, Judges Katherine Essrig & Michael Scionti, key stakeholders, and PSC staff accepted the proclamation in recognition of the life-changing work of these courts.

Students from the 2026 State Attorney’s Academy visited the courthouse, getting a behind-the-scenes tour of our criminal courthouse complex. These college students all plan to go to law school. We may soon see them in the courthouse again- contributing to our legal system!

All courthouse facilities of the 13th Judicial Circuit will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observance of , a day to remember and honor those who sacrificed their lives in service to our nation. Court business will resume on Tuesday, May 26th.

We want to congratulate three of our judges who were recently recognized by HAWL (Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers) with the following prestigious awards.
Judge Lyann Goudie, recipient of the 2026 HAWL Trailblazer Award,
which recognizes a female attorney who has exhibited a pioneering spirit, courageous leadership, and outstanding contributions to the legal community throughout her life and career.
Senior Judge Joelle Ober, named the 2026 HAWL Outstanding Jurist. The award honors a judge whose career exemplifies the highest standards of integrity and independence, is knowledgeable and faithful to the law, and endeavors to improve the administration of justice.
And, Judge Jessica Costello, recipient of the 2026 HAWL Achievement Award. The award recognizes a commitment to the purpose, goals, and mission of HAWL and promotes the status of women within the profession.
