Our very own Driver Engineer, Anthony Cuervo, shared important boating safety tips as we head into the busy Memorial Day weekend on the water. πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈπŸš€

Whether you’re spending the weekend on a boat, jet ski, or at the sandbar, safety should always come first. Here are a few reminders before you launch:

βš“ Wear a life jacket...especially children and weak swimmers
βš“ Never boat under the influence
βš“ Check the weather forecast before heading out
βš“ Designate a sober operator
βš“ Have working life jackets and emergency equipment onboard
βš“ File a float plan and let someone know where you’re going
βš“ Stay alert for other boaters and swimmers
βš“ Keep hydration and sunscreen handy in the Florida heat β˜€οΈπŸ’§

From all of us at Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

πŸš’πŸ”₯ HCFR crews responded to a residential structure fire Thursday afternoon on Blossom Avenue in Tampa after multiple 911 calls began coming into our emergency dispatch communications center shortly after 2:00 PM.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions coming from the single-story home and immediately went to work, launching an interior fire attack while crews searched the residence. Due to deteriorating conditions, firefighters transitioned to a defensive operation, using an aerial apparatus to knock down the remaining fire from above. πŸ’ͺ🚨

The fire was extinguished in under one hour. Thankfully, no occupants were found inside the home, and there were no injuries to civilians or first responders. πŸ™

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
