"The referendum will provide approximately $177 million to HCPS. Superintendent Van Ayres implored voters to support the referendum in the months leading up to election day, stating the funds would help Hillsborough remain competitive as neighboring counties continue to offer increasing incentives and salaries for teachers."

As you head to the polls tonight, be sure to fill out your full ballot and when you come to Referendum #2, Vote YES for Hillsborough County students!
Hillsborough County is the only school district among the 9 largest in Florida without an additional millage to support student education. Teachers are leaving Hillsborough County because they can earn more in neighboring counties and states, where millages support higher salaries.
This funding will provide an estimated $6,000 supplement for teachers and a $3,000 supplement for support staff such as bus drivers. These increases are essential to stop the outflow of talent to neighboring counties and states, where pay is more competitive.
Supporting the Hillsborough County Millage for Public School Students is about investing in the future of our community. It is about ensuring every student has access to quality education, every educator feels valued and supported, and every family can have confidence in our public schools.

"It's a really big ask of our community. Right? And we're asking them to actually increase their property taxes, but we're making an investment in our schools. We're making an investment in our students," said Rob Kriete, the president of the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association.
An additional millage would cost homeowners $1 for every $1,000 of assessed taxable value. The district has said this would generate $177 million a year, which would allow teachers to receive a $6,000 pay bump, and a $3,000 increase for support staff.
