Hello Terrier Nation! I am Ms. Hobbs, the Director of Bands & Orchestra here at Hillsborough. I wanted to share some of the amazing things our students have done so far this year! This is a long post so I hope you take the time to read it in its entirety!

In the fall semester, we had a blast performing at the football games and despite the weather concerns we received an overall Excellent and a Superior in percussion at our marching band music performance assessment. We also held a fabulous winter concert in December where all 7 performing ensembles played wonderful pieces. And our Jazz Ensemble performed at the Florida Aquarium for their Yuletide festivities.

So far this spring semester, we have had 40 students receive a superior rating and 25 students receive an excellent rating at the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Event. Because of their amazing success, we have almost 20 students going to state to perform their solos/ensembles!!!

We marched in the Gasparilla parade and our drum line performed in the Ybor City Fiesta Parade. And just this past Friday, our Big Red Orchestra received an excellent rating on stage and a superior in sight reading at their music performance assessment. We have had a lot of success this year and it’s only going to get better as we finish out this school year. Looking ahead, we have our spring concerts (dates will be announced soon) and we are hosting a district jazz event in April!

On top of all of our events, we are working on reorganizing and sprucing up the band room, orchestra room and auditorium stage for our chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society’s Beautification Project. Don’t worry, before and after pictures will be posted once we’re done! 😉

With our program growing, we are in need of supplies and support with equipment.
Below is a wishlist of supplies that we need for the music department. Items include percussion supplies, strings for orchestra instruments, sound and light equipment for upcoming events and more. If you feel led to donate and purchase an item for us, we would be incredibly grateful!

We are also offering corporate sponsorships for the music department. If you, your family, or business would like to sponsor the music department so we can get the equipment/supplies we need to grow and be successful, please contact me at [email protected]

We would use the funds from the sponsorships to wash marching uniforms, shirts for the program, purchase new instruments, purchase equipment for our jazz ensemble (stage platforms, jazz fronts, etc.), and anything else needed to provide students with a great music education.

This past Saturday several of our band students had the opportunity to participate in the USF HOT Day! We had a great time and are looking forward to the rest of our marching season!
