Sunda is a Tomistoma, also called a False Gharial. 💧 Tomistoma are found in a variety of habitats, including lowland freshwater forests, lakes, rivers, and more. This species' preferred habitat is a peat swamp, with its low elevation and slow-moving, muddy water. The murky waters help conceal the tomistoma from their prey, which is primarily fish. 🐟️

It's a global celebration for an otter-ly adorable animal! 🦦

World Otter Day celebrates all thirteen different species of otter, each with their own unique characteristics and environments! At ZooTampa, we are home to a trio of North American River Otters, who are well known for their playful nature.

A pond, river, stream, marsh, or other waterway with otters is a happy waterway. Otters are highly sensitive to pollution, making their presence a strong indicator of the quality of an area. As top predators in wetland ecosystems, North American River Otters are a keystone species, keeping the natural balance of their habitat in check.
