CANCELLED ---Pizza and Limericks! This fun hands-on program will take place at the library on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 PM with award-winning author and part-time Madison resident J.H. (Jean) Diehl.

So we have enough pizza and writing/drawing supplies, register by October 6 using the online form at https://bit.ly/limericks10-7-26.

No writing or drawing experience is needed—just bring your imagination. This event is for kids, parents, grandparents, and anyone of any age who enjoys rhymes, wordplay, or drawing. This program is inspired by Diehl’s new book, “The Daydreaming Sink,” a collection of 36 nonsense limericks about household objects.

Polly’s been hosting lively monthly discussions on AI ("We Need to Talk About AI") for the past several months. This month, we’ve invited a philosopher to help us think about what it means to be human in the age of AI. Thanks to a grant from New Hampshire Humanities (), Kiki Berk, Professor of Philosophy at SNHU, will give a presentation and then facilitate a discussion on the ethical landscape of AI on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:30 PM. To prepare for the discussion, Kiki suggests this quick read: https://1000wordphilosophy.com/2024/10/03/ai-ethics/

Local surveyor and history buff Paul King will present “Abenaki Archaeoastronomic Site Hiding in Plain Sight in Ossipee” on Wed., September 16 at 6:30 PM. At this program, Paul will describe his observations in the field, as well as the historical, geological, astronomical, and archeological resources that support his theory.

Archaeoastronomy is the study of past astronomical practices, often evidenced by structures created by humans to align with celestial objects. These types of structures are found worldwide. Stonehenge is a well-known archaeoastronomic site. Examples in the United States include Bighorn Medicine Wheel in Wyoming and Cahokia in Illinois.
