🚨🚒 TAOS FIRE INCIDENT🚨🚒

On October 10th at approximately 1:40 p.m., Taos Fire was dispatched to the area of 720 Paseo del Pueblo Sur for reports of smoke coming from a neighboring apartment.

Upon arrival at the 2 story, multi-family residence, Engine 3 (E3) observed smoke coming from one of the apartments. Firefighters made entry and located an aquarium with substrate mulch smoldering due to heat from the aquarium’s heat lamp.

Firefighters safely removed the aquarium and ventilated the apartment.
No injuries were reported to civilians, firefighters, or lizards. 🦎🚒
No additional information is available at this time.

🚒 That’s a wrap on our 93rd Annual Fire Drive! ❤️

Another successful Fire Drive is in the books, and we couldn’t have done it without the continued support of our Taos community. For 93 years, this community has stood behind Taos Fire, and we are incredibly grateful for that ongoing support.

A special thank you to Michael’s Kitchen and Mantes for generously providing breakfast and dinner for our firefighters throughout the day. Your kindness and support mean a great deal to our fire family.

🚨 A working smoke alarm can save your life.

A working smoke alarm gives you and your family an early warning and significantly increases your chances of surviving a home fire.

Test your alarms. Replace the batteries. Make sure everyone in your home knows two ways out.

🔥 This Fire Prevention Week, make sure your smoke alarms are working.

🔥🏠🚨🚒 Chimney and Ash Safety Reminder 🔥🏠🚨🚒

As cooler weather approaches, please take a few important steps to help prevent chimney and ash-related fires this winter.

Have your chimney cleaned and inspected before regular winter use.

After every fire, allow ashes and embers to cool completely before handling or disposal.

Never place hot ashes or embers in cardboard boxes, plastic trash bins, or any other combustible container.

Put ashes in a metal can with a secure lid.

Store the closed metal can outdoors in an area clear of combustible materials, including decks, porches, garages, firewood, leaves, and trash.

Leave ashes in the container long enough to ensure they are completely cold to the touch before final disposal.

Each year, many fires are caused by improperly maintained chimneys or ashes that were assumed to be cold but still contained live embers. These incidents are often easily preventable by cleaning chimneys regularly and disposing of ashes safely.
