National Farm Safety and Health Week: September 21–25, 2026

Farming is a tough job that comes with both great rewards and serious risks. This week, Three Rivers SWCD is recognizing National Farm Safety and Health Week and encouraging everyone to slow down, stay alert, and put safety first.

This year’s theme, “Safety Today, Success Tomorrow,” was selected by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) and highlights the importance of making safety a priority every day.

Last week, our Education and Outreach Coordinator, Grace, visited King and Queen Central High School to lead soil lessons with Ms. Gentry’s middle and high school art classes.

Students learned about the history of soil conservation, why Soil and Water Conservation Districts were created, and the important role soil plays in conservation. They also had the chance to use paints made with real soils to create their own posters for the 2026 National Association of Conservation Districts Poster Contest, themed “Soil. Where It All Begins.”

Interested in participating in this year’s contest? Reach out to Grace at [email protected] or call our office at (804) 443-4027.

We had a great time yesterday at the Essex Corn and Soybean Field Day at Brandon Farms with Essex County Virginia Cooperative Extension!

The evening included a look at the on-farm corn hybrid plots, along with updates on current corn and soybean research. Farmers and ag professionals were able to walk through the plots and see the different hybrids being grown.
